Slow Saturday Special: Quick Trip Around the Boston Globe Track

Think of it as the great, gas-guzzling, global-warming exercise of the American people for it is more popular than any other sport.

"US review of off-road racing expands" by Associated Press | August 21, 2010

LAS VEGAS — Federal officials promised tighter scrutiny of off-road racing yesterday, making a review of the sport run on public lands nationwide even as tricked-out trucks raced through the Nevada desert less than a week after a deadly accident in California.

Every time you turn around that is the case in this country these days.

Can the ass-implanted fart meter chip, I'm sorry, CARBON-MONITORING COLLECTION SYSTEM be far behind?

Can weighing your own feces for fees and charges be far behind?

WHEN does the FEDERAL INTRUSION from FAR, FAR AWAY end?

What have they GIVEN YOU other than WARS, LIES, and LOOTING by Wall Street, corporate, and political pillagers, America?

Has it BEEN WORTH IT?

Of course, the SAME GOVERNMENT -- as we have seen in the coal and oil fields -- GAVE PERMITS and WAIVERS to the exact entities they are now "cracking down on" for your protection, America!

It's a BIG GAME and SHOW for FOOLEYS, folks!

But back to the race because here they come
:

More than 200 teams of off-road enthusiasts also riding motorcycles, dune buggies, and four-wheel all-terrain vehicles sped across 530 miles of Nevada desert terrain yesterday....

The sport is inherently dangerous, but race officials don’t expect anything similar to the accident that killed eight people and injured 10 last Saturday at a race on federal land in California’s Mojave Desert. There are fewer spectators, for one thing, and they’ll be kept far away from the track.

The California crash, in which a truck sailed over a jump and hurtled into a crowd, initially spurred a review of racing permits in the California desert....

The Nevada race is far different than what took place in California, where videos of the accident showed a chaotic scene with fans crowding both sides of the track, giving drivers nowhere to go if they lost control.

Who won the race?
