There Once was a Man From Nantucket....

And the police just said "Aw, f*** it?"

"Nantucket police seize 107 marijuana plants" by Martin Finucane, Globe Staff | August 7, 2010

Officers seized a total of 107 marijuana plants from two locations on the upscale vacation island of Nantucket, police said.

The plants were recovered, along with growing materials and tools, at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The plants averaged 5 feet to 6 feet tall and would eventually have produced about $1,000 worth of marijuana each, police said.

Lieutenant Jerry W. Adams, a Nantucket police spokesman, said the department periodically finds and recovers marijuana plants, particularly in areas of the island where there are large areas of conservation land.

Perhaps 100 to 200 plants are found and destroyed annually, the police said.

“What [growers] do is they go out and find spots, and they’ll plant 40 plants here and 50 plants there,’’ he said. “Generally, what they are is they’re near a pond, so they can get water to them.’’

Police in this case found buckets for water, potting soil, and hand tools, he said.

No arrests were made, he said. The plants will be destroyed.

“We’ll continue to look for marijuana grows in the future,’’ he said.
