"Hunt slated to curb moose population" May 30, 2011|Associated Press
Maine will conduct a controlled moose hunt in Aroostook County for the third consecutive year. The state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said the hunt will run from Aug. 15 to Sept. 24. The hunt is in response to farmers’ concerns about crop damage and a high incidence of moose-vehicle collisions along Routes 1 and 161. The hunt is a targeted effort to effectively manage moose in an area that draws few recreational hunters. The game department will limit permits to eligible landowners and guidesand registered Maine guides. Ten permits will go to disabled veterans."
