Israeli Fisching Around For IMF Job

Why not?  They run the damn thing anyway. 

Why not drop all charades and pretensions?

JERUSALEM — Israel’s central bank chief, Stanley Fischer, is interested in the top job at the International Monetary Fund, a person familiar with the banker’s thinking told the Associated Press yesterday.

The person said Fischer has not decided whether to pursue the job, but “if the opportunity comes along, he will take it,’’ said the person....

Fischer, an internationally respected economist, held the number two position at the IMF during the 1990s....

He has also held top jobs at the World Bank and Citigroup Corp. He arrived in Israel in 2005 to be governor of the Bank of Israel. He has been widely credited with enabling the country to largely escape the global economic crisis....

PARIS — A minister accused of sexually assaulting two women he once worked with resigned yesterday in an apparent bid to spare the French government the kind of notoriety the opposition has faced since its leading man, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was charged with attempting to rape a Manhattan hotel maid....

One of the women said she was inspired to come forward after a housekeeper at a luxury Manhattan hotel said she was sexually assaulted by Strauss-Kahn, 62, a leading presidential hopeful in next year’s elections for the rival Socialist Party. He resigned his post as International Monetary Fund chief after charges were filed in New York.

Georges Tron, 53, is a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s conservative UMP party who joined the government just over a year ago.

Tron’s resignation appeared to be damage control as Sarkozy primps his image for a likely reelection bid in the 2012 presidential race. The popular Strauss-Kahn had been expected to run as the Socialist candidate for president.

Both Tron and Strauss-Kahn have denied any wrongdoing....
