Sunday Globe Special: When Push Comes to Shove

The AmeriKan media will throw a deceptive headline at you!

"Until last week, the United States had resisted European calls for the meeting tomorrow, believing there was nothing new to discuss

"White House push to revive Mideast peace talks foundering" July 10, 2011|By Bradley Klapper and Matthew Lee, Associated Press

More like were pushed, sigh, although I should not be surprised by the deceit anymore.

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration’s furious efforts to relaunch stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks this summer are going nowhere, and a looming UN confrontation could further set back prospects for a negotiated settlement any time soon....

Furious efforts, 'eh?

Makes you wonder who is paying for the right to present you with the "news."

Repeated visits to Israel and the West Bank last month by US envoys have produced no tangible results....

This past week, the new US special Mideast peace envoy, David Hale, and White House adviser Dennis Ross pressed the chief Palestinian peace negotiator on one of the biggest points of contention, a Palestinian plan to win UN recognition as an independent state.

You know, like Israel did.

The distortions never stop, do they?

And the U.S.'s main concern is blocking the U.N. they are going to veto in Security Council?

How about worrying about Gaza, settlement expansion and Jerusalem first?

Israel and the United States support an eventually-independent Palestine but oppose the attempt to establish one without negotiation with the Jewish state.

USrael in support of an apartheid state.

In a sign of the intractability of the decades-long deadlock, negotiator Saeb Erekat said immediately after Wednesday’s meeting that the Palestinians were more determined than ever to win recognition when the UN General Assembly meets in September.

And they will (smile).

Erekat said those opposing the Palestinians need to “rethink their position.’’

Is that possible for inhuman psychopaths?

The measure probably will pass, providing the Palestinians with increased diplomatic power, even if independence still will need the council’s approval. The United States would surely veto any such resolution.

And be OUTED as Israel's bitch.

One US official privately described the overall atmosphere surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian peace process as gloomy. A second termed it depressing. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential meetings.

The deadlock had split the United States and its allies about how to restart the talks. Until last week, the United States had resisted European calls for the meeting tomorrow, believing there was nothing new to discuss, officials said....

But, but, but.... the headline and lead paragraph implied.....  aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggghh!!!!!

The Palestinians have sent officials to lobby governments around the world for support; Israel is engaged in a determined counter-effort.

The vote will give you a good gauge on which governments Israel has in its pocket.

Palestinian officials might be persuaded to withdraw the draft.

I don't think so, as much as the agenda-pushing propaganda press hopes.

But with the peace process essentially frozen for the past two years, Washington has struggled to offer an alternative path.

And why would that be?  Whose thumb are we under?

It hasn’t even been able to get Israel to stop settlement building in areas the Palestinians hope to include in their state.

Yup, WEAK LITTLE WASHINGTON(?)!!!

--more--"

The worst thing is the Congress is completely useless on the issue.

If you look at the history of the "special relationship" over the last 25 years it is only the executive that even deign to challenge the Zionist state.  Bush I lost an election after he cut off loan guarantees, and Obama has been in hot water for just the appearance of taking the toe away from the line. Clinton and W also took their turns advancing some ideas but never got very far. During it all Congress has more often than not sided with Israel.
