Right now, no one could be blamed for wondering. Last week, a version of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream’’ sold at auction in New York for a record $119.9 million.
Meanwhile, art dealers who paid as much as $65,000 for a stand at the first New York incarnation of the prestigious Frieze Art Fair - a four-day extravaganza that ran through Monday - are now pulling down their displays and shipping scads of expensive artworks around the world, like so many luxury commodities.

enormous piles of surplus cash....
I'm not against the arts. I'm all in favor of people expressing their creativity. Heck, that is why I am here performing my particular brand of artistry.
What I am against is the massive amounts of loot pored into elite interests and tastes when the the vast majority of the populace suffers and doesn't give a damn due to the dumb-down effect.
Yeah, wouldn't want to dump tons of loot into caring for and educating -- I mean really educating, not the indoctrinating and inculcating tripe being shoveled at the kids now -- the people. That's just about the last thing you would want to do with loot.
