WASHINGTON — It did not take long for the Internet to start buzzing with conspiracy theories after the Social Security Administration posted a notice that it was purchasing 174,000 hollow-point bullets.
Why is the agency that provides benefits to retirees, disabled workers, widows, and children stockpiling ammunition? Whom are they going to use it on?
‘‘It’s not outlandish to suggest that the Social Security Administration is purchasing the bullets as part of preparations for civil unrest,’’ the website Infowars.com said.
Well, that just outed Infowars as controlled opposition. You only make the paper if you are part of it. Alex must be on deep background, but that is where my agenda-pushing media is sending you.
Don't get me wrong, I like the site and it does provide a lot of good information. They have to or their credibility is shot; however, Alex always leaves out the last 5% or so that is at the bottom of it all (while running you down some cul-de-sacs at the same time).
Another website, The Daily Caller, said the bullets must be for use against US citizens, ‘‘since the SSA has never been used overseas to help foreign countries maintain control of their citizens.’’
The clamor became such a distraction that the agency dedicated a website to explaining the purchase. The explanation, it turns out, is not as tantalizing as an arms buildup to defend against unruly senior citizens.
Okay, what's the excuse?
The bullets are for Social Security’s office of inspector general, which has about 295 agents who investigate fraud and other crimes, said Jonathan L. Lasher, the agency’s assistant inspector general for external relations.
Ummmm, why would they need all those bullets then?
Agents carry .357 caliber pistols and make arrests — 589 last year, Lasher said. They execute search warrants and respond to threats on offices, employees, and customers.
The bullets, about 590 per agent, are for the upcoming fiscal year. Most will be expended on the firing range.
If that is true then what an INCREDIBLE WASTE of MONEY during a TIME of AUSTERITY!!
Some bloggers have taken issue with the type of ammunition, questioning why agents need hollow-point bullets, known for causing more tissue damage because they expand when they enter the body.
Social Security’s turn in the pillory hit a crescendo when Jay Leno joked about it on ‘‘The Tonight Show.’’ “What senior citizens are they worried about?’’ Leno asked. ‘‘I mean, who’s going to storm the building?’’
Lasher said, ‘‘That’s why we opened a blog post. We were getting a lot of inquiries and the blog gave us a vehicle to put all of the accurate information out there in one place, so that those who are interested or concerned can read what the real story is.’’
Oh, now blogs are the answer.
Then I guess we REALLY HAVE WON!
Which is why YOU and I are HERE, dear readers.

"Millions of future seniors will probably end up paying more, or getting fewer benefits — no matter who wins the White House."
That's why they need the bullets!
"Social Security benefits rise 1.7 percent" by Stephen Ohlemacher | Associated Press, October 17, 2012
WASHINGTON — Much of the 1.7 percent increase in benefits could get wiped out by higher Medicare premiums, which are deducted from Social Security payments.
At the same time, about 10 million working people who make more than $110,100 will be hit with a tax increase next year because more of their wages will be subject to Social Security taxes.
The cost-of-living adjustment on payments, dubbed COLA, is tied to a government measure of inflation released Tuesday. It confirms that inflation has been relatively low over the past year, despite the recent surge in gasoline prices....
I must be going deaf in my old age because I no longer hear this agenda-pushing s***.
Social Security payments average $1,131 a month, or $13,572 a year. A 1.7 percent increase amounts to a $19 increase each month, or about $230 a year.
Chump change when you consider the trillions that go to and for war, Wall Street, corporations, and Israel.
