A 25-year-old woman was assaulted early Saturday morning as she walked on the Esplanade, according to a statement from State Police, who are investigating along with the Suffolk district attorney’s office.
The woman was walking in the lagoon area of the Esplanade about 2:50 a.m. when a man suddenly pushed her to the ground, according to the statement.
Several passersby intervened, the statement said, and the man ran away.
The assault was reported to a Boston police officer on Beacon Street a few minutes later, and state troopers responded. The man was described as white or Hispanic, bald, and 5 foot 7 or 5 foot 8 inches tall.
The woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with minor injuries from being pushed to the ground, authorities said.
The description of the suspect does not match that of the suspect in a series of linked, unsolved assaults on the Esplanade and in South Boston in 2006, 2007, and 2009, according to the statement.
That suspect was described as an African-American man with a medium to large build who stood between 5 foot 8 and 5 foot 10 inches tall, according to the statement.
State Police are asking anyone with information about the Saturday morning assault to call them....
