Sunday Globe Special: No Fun in Florida

"A 5-year-old Florida girl riding in a boat has died after a sturgeon leaped from the Suwannee River and struck her. Wildlife officials said Jaylon Rippy died after being struck Thursday night. Her mother and 9-year-old brother were also injured and taken to a hospital in Gainsville. Their conditions were not known. The state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said this is the first fatality recorded from a sturgeon strike on the Suwannee, although four people have been injured by jumping sturgeon on the river this year. The fish are known for leaping more than 7 feet above the water. They can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh up to 200 pounds....

The largest Ferris wheel on the East Coast reopened Saturday, one day after 66 stranded riders had to be evacuated from the Orlando Eye after it abruptly stopped. No one was hurt in the incident; the rescue operation from the 400-foot-tall ride lasted about three hours, with help from firefighters."

That's a long time to hold on tight. 

Kids should have went to the zoo instead.
