"A university in Tennessee is investigating after six rainbow-colored nooses were found Monday hanging from a tree on campus. University officials said campus police received several complaints at around 5 p.m. Monday about nooses near the Trahern fine arts building. Officers took the nooses down ‘‘out of concern of hate symbolism and its potential impact to the campus,’’ according to the university. Some on social media subsequently said the display was not meant to be malicious but instead was an art project intended to bring attention to the number of suicides within the LGBT community. A student who did not want to be named said the project was part of an introductory sculpture class and that the professor had approved it. Other universities have also seen incidents involving nooses in recent years."
I'm going to slip out of that without comment.

"The measure’s stated intention is to protect those who believe that marriage should be between one woman and one man, that sexual relations should only take place inside such marriages, and that female and male genders are unchangeable. ‘‘This bill merely reinforces the rights which currently exist to the exercise of religious freedom as stated in the First Amendment to the US Constitution,’’ the Republican governor wrote in a statement posted to his Twitter account."

"Missing Ga. kayaker was on run over child porn charges" Associated Press April 20, 2016
SAVANNAH, Ga. — A missing kayaker who was the focus of a two-day air and sea search off the Georgia coast staged his disappearance to escape prosecution on charges that he sought sex with a child, authorities said Wednesday.
Cody Magee, 38, of Savannah was being held Wednesday in Oklahoma City on an arrest warrant issued roughly 1,000 miles away after he missed a Monday court hearing in Georgia, said Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Sonny Cohrs. His wife filed a missing person report after he disappeared Sunday night, Cohrs said.
‘‘He was supposedly going kayaking and was supposed to be gone for an hour,’’ Cohrs said. ‘‘He never came back.’’
The Coast Guard launched a two-day search for Magee around Tybee Island, a beach community near Savannah. Crews covered 2,500 square miles before the search was called off Tuesday night.
A few hours before midnight Tuesday, a police officer in Oklahoma City pulled Magee over after a routine license plate check showed he had been reported missing.
Georgia authorities were working to extradite Magee, who faces charges of child pornography and attempted child molestation in Effingham County west of Savannah.
He was arrested last June after undercover investigators posing online as a young teenager lured him to a home."

A brother of 48-year-old Mario Mejia-Martinez and an immigrant rights advocate expressed lingering disapproval of Pepicelli’s use of deadly force in the incident. “I don’t know how he continues to work after killing someone when it could’ve been avoided,” said Jose Joaquin Mejia-Martinez of Everett.
“This is not how you take care of your residents.” Jose Joaquin Mejia-Martinez said his brother worked at a recycling company in Somerville and would send money to his children and the children’s mother, who live in El Salvador.
