Translation: LAYING OFF WORKERS, INCREASING PROFIT MARGINS, and RAISING PRICES is called CUSTOMER SERVICE and is a GOOD THING according to the pro-corporate press.

Also yesterday, the medical diagnostics company Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. moved to a first-quarter profit, crediting improved sales from recently acquired businesses. The Waltham company's adjusted profit surpassed Wall Street expectations.
