Snowboarding to Austria

Doubles as a surfboard, 'eh?

"Snowboard work will move to Austria" by Associated Press | March 17, 2010

MONTPELIER — Burton Snowboards, the snowboard innovator whose name has been synonymous with Vermont since the dawn of the sport, is ending its manufacturing operations in the state, moving 43 jobs to Austria, the company said yesterday. That will certainly help the employment picture around here.

I mean LYING GOVERNMENT and SELF-SERVING INDUSTRIES say we see job creation, but THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES!

The SCALE of LYING to the American people is a REAL SNOW JOB, if you know what that means! It's an outdated term.

Burton Manufacturing Center, in South Burlington, which manufactured a portion of the company’s high-end boards that sell for $700 to $1,500 retail, will close in June. The work will move to a facility in Uttendorf, Austria, run by Keil, that has been producing the high-end boards for 25 years. Prototyping work will be moved to the company’s global headquarters in Burlington, which employs 377 people. High production costs in Vermont were cited as the reason, but the privately held company wouldn’t be more specific....

The bulk of Burton’s snowboards are made in Europe and Asia already.

“When I started Burton Snowboards in 1977, all we did was make snowboards in Vermont,’’ said founder Jake Burton Carpenter. “Thanks to the BMC staff, we’ve excelled at prototyping and developing product in Vermont, which is why all four Burton Olympic halfpipe medals were won on snowboards coming out of our local factory. But simply put, it costs us significantly more to produce a board in Vermont than we are capable of selling it for, and sadly, this is not sustainable in the current economy,’’ said Burton. The Austrian factory has the capacity to increase production, the company said. Burton said the workers displaced would get help from the state Department of Labor to assist them with unemployment benefits and potential job opportunities.

Yeah, great.

An institution shutters up shop but you can go put a further drain on the government budgets and national economy.

"Democrats said deficit-financed jobless benefits are not only needed to help people unable to find work but are one of the most effective ways to pump up the still-struggling economy.

Not only are they incredible, they are NUTS!

Think of the WARPED LOGIC there, readers!

Yeah, let's TAKE TAX DOLLARS (actually, borrowing on them which will come with interest payments, but....) from the FEWER and FEWER WORKERS and BUSINESSES and give them to UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE so they can SPEND IT!

How about GETTING RID of the TAXES and CREATING JOBS instead?!!!

Nope, not from government!

“It’s an investment in our economy,’’ bill sponsor Max Baucus, Democrat of Montana, said. “Unemployment benefits help our unemployed neighbors. And in helping our neighbors, unemployment benefits also help to keep open the neighborhood grocery store and the neighborhood gas station.’’

All I can say is INSANE, readers!!

Oh, excuse me, I'm not an economist.

Neither are they.

F*** the X games.
