"Church warned, but no action; Now in Mexico, suspected abuser remains a priest" by N.C. Aizenman, Washington Post | April 21, 2010
WASHINGTON — Although Rev. Teodoro Baquedano Pech has denied abusing Sylvia Chavez, the Archdiocese of San Francisco settled a lawsuit in 2006, paying her $300,000 without admitting culpability. Nevertheless, Chavez said, she “cannot rest’’ as long as Baquedano remains a priest with access to children.
“It’s not over at all,’’ she said. “He’s a criminal who uses his collar as a weapon....’’
Is it anything like an F-16?
In recent weeks, the Catholic Church has faced a barrage of allegations that it allowed clergy members accused of molesting children in the United States to continue working as priests overseas. In some cases, the priests have remained in the ministry despite concerted efforts by US victims and church officials to hold them accountable.
Although news organizations in Yucatan have followed up on Baquedano’s case, the articles about him haven’t generated much public outcry, according to Jesus Delgado Centeno, director of a network of online publications in the southeastern Mexican state. Reached by phone in his church living quarters, Baquedano said repeatedly, “I don’t want to answer any questions. Please call the archbishop about this.’’
Armando Martinez, an attorney for the archbishop of Yucatan, Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzaran, said that after determining that there were no accusations against Baquedano by anyone in Yucatan, church officials saw no need for further action. “The archbishop has zero tolerance for abuse of minors. . . . But you need evidence. We can’t remove someone simply because of a letter alerting us to an accusation [in the United States]. He wasn’t even convicted there.’’
One political leader has taken notice. “We need to investigate exactly what duties this priest has and if he really is in contact with children,’’ said Bertha Perez Medina, a member of Yucatan’s state assembly. “Where was the moral responsibility of [church officials] if they knew of these accusations and continued to protect him and allow him to continue working with children?’’

"German priest ordered home from US" by Associated Press | April 21, 2010
BERLIN — A German priest has been suspended and ordered home from a posting in the United States as he faces allegations he sexually abused teenage girls in Germany two decades ago, church officials said yesterday.
Deplorable, but at least it wasn't prepubescent boys!
The Roman Catholic diocese of Mainz in southwestern Germany said it had informed prosecutors in Darmstadt of the abuse accusations. It gave little detail but said there was no suggestion that he sexually abused children under the age of 14. The priest has most recently been working at the German Catholic Mission in Washington, D.C. Church authorities did not identify him.
The Mainz diocese and the German bishops conference said in a joint statement the suspended priest is suspected of “having had sexual relations in the late ’80s and early ’90s with female youths and young women who had confided to him in his capacity as a pastor.’’
Got a confession to make, "father?"
********
The priest is back in Germany.
Meanwhile, a prominent German bishop accused of physical abuse of children decades ago and of financial misconduct offered an apology yesterday.

"Colombia cardinal defends church's abuse policies" by Luisa Fernanda Cuellar, Associated Press Writer | April 22, 2010
BOGOTA --A senior cardinal defended the Roman Catholic Church's practice of frequently not reporting sexual abusive priests to the police, saying Thursday it would have been like testifying against a family member at trial.
A lot of abuse cases are just that: family rapes.
Colombian Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos also said in a radio interview that Pope Benedict XVI, formerly Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, was involved in a 2001 decision to praise a French bishop for shielding a priest who was convicted of raping minors....
Outrage over the church's handling of sexual abuse allegations against priests is spreading across Latin America, where the large majority of more than 500 million people are Roman Catholics. In Brazil, an 83-year-old priest was detained this week on allegations that he abused at least three boys, beginning when they were 12-years-old....
That is disgusting!
The cardinal also accused unnamed insiders and enemies elsewhere of feeding the sex abuse scandals hurting the Catholic Church. "Unfortunately there are ... useful idiots inside (the church) who lend themselves to this type of persecution," Castrillon told RCN, using a term for people duped into sympathizing with a foe of their interests. "But I'm not afraid to say that in some cases it's within the Masons, together with other enemies of the church."
What do you know, a CATHOLIC CONSPIRACY THEORIST!
I'd like to talk to him about 9/11.
He would not give details, however, saying that "since I'm not stupid, I don't tell everything I know. Only drunks, children and idiots tell, and I'm not a child, nor a drunk, nor stupid."
Translation: He would like to remain alive.
Honestly, I can not believe the unholy rewrite and omissions.
What I'm looking at on my desk:
Meanwhile, the pope accepted the resignation yesterday of an Irish bishop who acknowledged failing to report abuse to police, while a German bishop also offered to step down....
Bishop James Moriarty of Kildare is the third Irish bishop to step down since December; two more Irish bishops have offered to resign and the pope is expected to accept. There are also mounting calls for the country's top prelate, Cardinal Sean Brady, to leave because of his handling of the case of a notorious child rapist.
The German prelate, Bishop Walter Mixa of Augsburg, was accused of hitting children decades ago when he was a priest, as well as financial irregularities at a Catholic orphanage where he served....
And yesterday, documents included in a lawsuit filed on behalf of boys allegedly abused at a school for the deaf in Wisconsin showed that the Vatican was alerted to the alleged abuse by one of the victims a year earlier than previously thought....
The Vatican dismissed the lawsuit as a publicity stunt entirely without merit that rehashes theories already rejected by US courts. Jeffrey Lena, a US lawyer representing the church, said the lawsuit "is simply the latest attempt by certain US lawyers to use the judicial process as a tool of media relations."

"Vatican backs adult stem cell research; Offers resources for an alternative to use of embryos" by Alessandra Rizzo, Associated Press | April 24, 2010
ROME — The Vatican is pushing for research on adult stem cells as an alternative to the use of embryonic stem cells, which the Catholic Church opposes because it maintains that the destruction of the embryo amounts to the killing of human life....
“This research protects life,’’ Cardinal Renato Martino said during a meeting with Italian and American scientists and health officials to outline the project. “I want to stress that it doesn’t involve embryonic stem cells, where one helps oneself and then throws the embryo away and kills a human life.’’
A rare thing these days.
Adult stem cells are found in the bodies of all humans. Human embryonic stem cells are produced from surplus embryos of in vitro fertilization procedures used to help infertile women get pregnant. Both are prized for their ability to morph into other kinds of cells, offering the possibility of replacing tissue damaged by ailments such as Parkinson’s disease. But adult cells are thought to be less versatile than embryonic ones, and scientists have had more trouble growing adult stem cells in the laboratory than embryonic cells. Still, adult stem cells could be easier to use for therapeutic purposes if they are taken from patients themselves, because the replacement tissue would have less chance of being rejected....
In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI said the Catholic Church can encourage somatic stem cell research — also known as adult stem cell research — “because of the favorable results obtained through these alternative methods,’’ and more importantly because it respects “the life of the human being at every stage of his or her existence.’’
An even rarer thing these days.
During a visit with President Obama at the Vatican last year, Benedict underscored his beliefs about stem cells by giving the president a copy of a Vatican document on bioethics that hardened the church’s opposition to using embryos for stem cell research, cloning, and in-vitro fertilization. Obama has lifted restrictions, imposed by his predecessor George W. Bush, on federal funding of research using human embryonic stem cells.
I guess that is change.
That all we getting?

And the church must THANK GOD for THAT LAWYER LENA, huh?
"In US, an unlikely guy acts as pope’s legal voice; Calif. lawyer shares few details about landing job" by Jason Horowitz, Washington Post | April 25, 2010
WASHINGTON — This is a bad time for Jeffrey Lena to have quit caffeine.
In Kentucky, the 51-year-old attorney is defending Pope Benedict XVI from a deposition motion in a case involving child abuse by clergy. In a suit pending before the US Supreme Court, Lena argues that the court has no jurisdiction to try the Vatican for transferring a predatory priest from Ireland to Oregon.
In Mississippi, he is defending the Vatican against accusations that it participated in a money-laundering scheme. In New York, Lena is defending the Holy See in a commercial-licensing dispute about the use of images belonging to the Vatican Museums. Wherever in the United States the Vatican stands accused, Lena is there to protect it. “I am counsel for the Holy See,’’ said Lena.
As an international clerical sex abuse scandal has rocked the Roman Catholic Church, Lena, a sole practitioner who works out of a small office in California, has taken the lead in defending the Vatican in the courts of law and public opinion. That means the mild-mannered comparative law specialist is swamped....
Some of Lena’s former opponents say he is in way over his head and does not possess the legal heft to command such complex and historic cases. Victims groups say Lena’s deft navigation of legal loopholes is anathema to an institution built on the revelation of truth.
The Catholic Church was never very interested in that. Galileo ring a bell?
But Vatican supporters say he is effective, and that his immunity defense has broader applications for international law. What is clear is that through his newly voluble response to media inquiries about the Vatican’s actions, the down-to-earth lawyer has emerged as a de facto spokesman to the pope....
Lena views his defense of the Vatican under an overarching principle that a state should only have jurisdiction over a foreign sovereign when harmful conduct is attributable to the foreign government itself. If a state reaches out to take jurisdiction over another country, the balance of international power can be undermined.
Sort of like KIDNAPPINGS and EXTRAORDINARY RENDITIONS!
Not everyone is so impressed with Lena’s ideas....
That would probably be the U.S. government, huh?

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI seems to be stepping up his reaction as the scandal deepens and widens, posing the most challenging crisis in decades for the Roman Catholic church.
Benedict, in remarks to the public in St. Peter’s Square, told priests they must “fight for the defense of the flock,’’ defend their charges from evil, and ensure that faithful can place “absolute trust’’ in their pastors....
But
Collection plate going clink, clink, clink, huh, readers?
Benedict made no admission of responsibility for devising and overseeing what victims in lawsuits contend were strategies to protect the church from scandal instead of children from harmful priests. In his remarks from his studio window in the Apostolic Palace, he appeared intent on guiding the world’s 1.1 billion Catholics through the church crisis....
Yeah, that IS a SIZABLE BLOCK of people for the Jews to hoodwink.
And when you ADD a BILLION MUSLIMS, well....
See: Catholics and Muslims Living Together
The Zionist MSM's daily attacks on Catholics starting to make a lot more sense now.
But
My collection cup overfloweth!!!
I better use a plate next time!
the pope never used the word “pedophilia’’ and did not mention the violence that children have suffered at the hands of priests and, in at least a couple of cases, even bishops.
The Israeli-serving war press really has some nerve, don't they?
For as terrible as the sex abuse is, the victims are still living and did not have WMD dumped on them like Palestinians.
But the POPE did not mention the violence; he just tried to stop it.
Instead he focused on the good clergy do for children.
Sort of the way the newspaper always focuses on all the good the Jew does.

And there MUST BE a GOD because the Zionist press laid off for a couple of days.

"On CatholicTV, new devotion to outreach; Broadcast arm of the Boston archdiocese has national plans" by Lisa Wangsness, Globe Staff | April 24, 2010
WATERTOWN — Today, The CatholicTV Network is a fill-your-plate buffet of 24/7 Catholic content, including not only the full menu of prayer and services, but also religious cartoons, a Catholic trivia game show for children, and “House + Home,’’ a decidedly wholesome “reality-style show’’ featuring local Catholic families. CatholicTV is on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube; there is an iPhone application, as well as an active blog.
That can only help things.
Within the next five years, CatholicTV’s leaders want their network to be available across America. This week, they signed a deal with

Confirmed.
The Rev. Robert Reed, the station’s ambitious 50-year-old director, says CatholicTV is a form of evangelization and outreach, seeking to show the joyful side of the church in the United States and to remind estranged Catholics of the “beauty and diversity and wealth’’ of the institution that was once their spiritual home.
Also, as the Vatican is struggling to deal with the sexual abuse crisis that exploded eight years ago in Boston, Reed sees an opportunity for Boston Catholics to help rebuild the archdiocese’s image.
“I think the CatholicTV network can be one of the ways that we can redeem ourselves as an archdiocese,’’ he said. “I want people to look at the Archdiocese of Boston and be able to smile and say, ‘You know, that’s a great church, those are good people,’ because we are.’’
Yes, they have their problems but they are BETTER THAN OTHERS and still GO WHERE OTHERS REFUSE TO GO!!!
Although televangelists like Jerry Falwell and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker became household names in the 1980s, Catholics have not had such a vivid presence on American television since Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen’s hit 1950s show, “Life Is Worth Living.’’
Do NOT try to TAR US with THOSE FRAUDS!!!
******************
CatholicTV has a lively presence on Facebook and Twitter, and its website makes it possible for viewers to watch streaming video, as well as about 1,400 episodes of archived programs.
But the IMAGE in the MSM is that of a BACKWARDS, MEDIEVAL, CLOSED-MINDED CHURCH!!!!
Stewart Hoover, a professor who specializes in religion and media at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder, said he doubts that CatholicTV will be able to attract younger people who are not Catholic already.
Just as the Jews are losing their young girls because they recognize it's all a bunch of BS.
The very notion of an officially Catholic channel is “somewhat anachronistic,’’ he said. “It’s not consistent with the way audiences today consume media.
No one minds a Jewish-dominated MSM.
“Even religious audiences . . . don’t go for the symbolic blessing of a channel,’’ he said. “They resent having an authority telling them this is the proper way to think about things.’’
Anything because they all turn out to be self-serving slaves and liars.
But some Catholics are voting with their remote controls....
Yeah, I don't watch television news anymore, how did you know?
Got stuck on the Catholic channel, readers!
Better than anything else on the dial.
