Memory Hole: Morning Duty

What is one of the first things you do?

Head for the
toilet, right?

I usually bring in something to
read; it acts as a laxative, believe it or not.

"Accused Al Qaeda operative in court after 5 years in brig; Qatar native also faces federal civil charges in Illinois" by Bruce Smith, Associated Press | March 11, 2009

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Alleged Al Qaeda sleeper agent Ali al-Marri, smiling and seemingly relaxed, appeared in federal court yesterday to face terror charges, his first time outside a nearby military brig in more than five years.

Al-Marri, who had been held without charge as an enemy combatant, now faces civilian federal charges of providing material support to terror and conspiracy in Illinois.

President Obama ordered al-Marri to be surrendered to civil authorities last month after he was indicted in federal court in Peoria, Ill. Around the same time, the administration asked the Supreme Court to dismiss a legal challenge by al-Marri to his military detention, which the court last week agreed to do.

We got NO CHANGE!

The 43-year-old Qatar native made an initial appearance before US Magistrate Judge Robert Carr, telling him he understood the charges and his rights. He is expected to enter a formal plea when returned to Illinois....

Until his transfer or release on bond, prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to keep al-Marri in a civilian cell at the Navy brig where he has been held since 2003....

How is that "civilian?"

Defense attorney Andy Savage told reporters later his client was glad to get out of the brig, if only for a short time. "He was very pleased to be outside and very pleased to be in a court environment but it was dark outside and he was disappointed he didn't get to see much of Charleston," Savage said. He said his client is doing well, considering his long detention in what the lawyer called isolation. "You saw his characteristics - he's calm, he's collected, smiling, engaged, and interested in what's going on," Savage said.

"This is a fella whose picture just went to his family last month. This is a fella who has only had three phone calls with his family, three of those being in the last year," he added....

And for doing what?

Al-Marri was studying at Bradley University in Peoria when he was arrested in late 2001 as part of the investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks. He was initially indicted on fraud charges, which were dropped in 2003 when President Bush declared him an enemy combatant.

That was just to get him entangled in the system.

The government has said al-Marri met with Osama bin Laden and volunteered for a suicide mission or whatever help Al Qaeda wanted. He arrived in the United States the day before terrorists struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Well, THIS GOVERNMENT (and MSM) and its ENDLESS "Al-CIA-Duh" PROPAGANDA when they KNOW BETTER has really turned off this reader to anything and everything they say -- which is a good thing, too, because other than the bare minimum descriptions of on the ground events, its all lies.

Qaeda leaders wanted al-Marri, a computer specialist, to wreak havoc on the US banking system and to serve as a liaison for other operatives, according to a court document filed by Jeffrey Rapp, a senior member of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Hey, YOU GUYS were LOOKING the WRONG WAY! Should have had your eyes on GOLDMAN SACHS.

Oh, right, executive staffed by Goldman Sachs and Congress has been bought off and is a servant of the Goldman Sachs-run Federal Reserve.

After a while you begin to realize that the newspaper coverage of New England's largest daily is such garbage.

The Supreme Court forced Obama to act in al-Marri's case when it decided in December to hear his challenge to being held as an enemy combatant. Several justices had indicated as early as 2006, in the detention case of US citizen and former Chicago gang member José Padilla, that they were troubled by the Bush policy of holding people without charges on US soil.

And TORTURING THEM, right?

The TORTURE is a problem, right?

Btw, Padilla is the guy they destroyed after four years.

And look at what MSM log comes a-rollin' at you months later:

PEORIA, Ill. - An Al Qaeda sleeper agent who admitted having contact with the alleged mastermind behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was sentenced to more than eight years in prison yesterday.

Does that include time served (and now I see why he took the deal; eight years and out and you can still see family and a life).

US District Judge Michael Mihm could have sentenced Ali al-Marri to as much as 15 years. He handed down the lighter sentence of eight years and four months, however, in consideration of what defense attorneys called harsh treatment during the almost six years Marri was held without charges in a US Navy brig.

But it was a "civilian" cell.

Given all the police brutality in this country you pretty quickly come to the conclusion that there really is no difference. Why most people veer away when they see a cop.

The judge’s decision could have far-reaching consequences because the United States still holds more than 200 people without charge at Guantanamo Bay. If convicted, those detainees also could argue that their time in custody should be considered at sentencing.

Related:

"The Obama administration, which is considering plans to indefinitely detain dozens of Guantanamo Bay prisoners without civilian or military trials.... cannot face trial because the evidence is too weak to hold up in court"

Some change.

Marri, a 44-year-old Qatar native, pleaded guilty in May to conspiring to provide material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization. He also acknowledged having regular contact with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the man the government said was the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks, and with Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi, who allegedly helped the hijackers with money and Western-style clothing.

I love good a CIA cover story, don't you?

They extract that under torture, did they?

So why were those questionable confessions by the "mastermind" and others not tossed by our judges, 'eh?

He wept through his 10-minute testimony yesterday, telling Mihm he was sorry he ever helped the terrorist organization and glad his actions never led to any harm. Mihm told Marri he didn’t believe he’d renounced Al Qaeda and thought he was likely to attack the United States if given the chance.

Did the judge have a pair of fear-mongering pom-poms to go with that inanity?

But he also said Marri deserved credit for the time he’d spent in isolation in the Navy brig in South Carolina. While Mihm couldn’t directly credit Marri for that time, he had the option of giving him a lighter sentence.

I'm sure he will take it.

At least he has friends drop by to make sure he is all right and is being well-treated.

So which "Al-CIA-Duh" is in there?

The made-up "Al-CIA-Duh?"

Or the "Al-CIA-Duh" CREATION for the COURTROOM!?

Come on, people are waiting to use the
