Capping Off Oil Catastrophe Coverage

Your daily dose of industry and government lies until the story simply fades away....

"Ships evacuate, but oil cap stays closed as storm nears" by Harry R. Weber and David Dishneau, Associated Press | July 23, 2010

ON THE GULF OF MEXICO — Key ships stationed over BP’s crippled well in the Gulf of Mexico were ordered to evacuate yesterday ahead of Tropical Storm Bonnie, and engineers have grown so confident in the leaky cap fixed to the well head that they will leave it closed while they are gone.

Bonnie, which blossomed over the Bahamas and was to enter the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend, could delay by another 12 days the push to plug the broken well for good using mud and cement, retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen and BP officials conceded....

Bonnie caused flooding in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti before reaching tropical storm strength later yesterday....

Yeah, Haiti has all but dropped off the radar these days.

I wonder what a river of water does to a tent.

Scientists say even a severe storm should not affect the well cap, nearly a mile beneath the ocean surface and 40 miles from the Louisiana coast. “Assuming all lines are disconnected from the surface, there should be no effect on the well head by a passing surface storm,’’ said Paul Bommer, lecturer in petroleum engineering at University of Texas at Austin.

Charles Harwell, a BP contractor monitoring the cap, was also confident.

“That cap was specially made, it’s on tight, we’ve been looking at the progress and it’s all good,’’ he said after his ship returned to Port Fourchon, La....

And what do you know, another "updated" rewrite.

What my PRINTED PAPERS SAYS that the WEB CENSORED:

Barring another setback -- and the three-month operation has been filled with them -- crude should never again gush from the infamous well.

No, it will be seeping out the sea floor instead.

Seas already were choppy in the gulf, with waves up to 5 feet rocking boats as crews prepared to leave, and more of the smaller boats involved in the coastal cleanup were called into port, Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul Zukunft said.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal aid he expects local leaders in coastal areas to call for evacuation of low-lying areas as early as this morning.

At the spill site, the water no longer looks thick with gooey tar.

WHO is SAYING THAT?

What, Globe go give it an eyeball?

But the oil is still there beneath the surface, staining the hulls of cutters motoring around it.

One large vessel -- the Helix Q4000 -- is burning off oil collected from the water and bright orange flames flared at the side of the ship....

I'm just wondering why the ship didn't melt.

I mean, the trade towers did and that was a lot less fuel.

Maybe that's why it got the cut for you webbers?

Then there is the whole pollution and global-warming issue.

This your fault, too, America?

"BP site leader questioned after blast" by Bloomberg News | July 23, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — BP PLC’s well team leader in Houston said he never got an “accurate picture’’ from Robert Kaluza, a well-site leader who was on temporary assignment to the doomed Deepwater Horizon rig, about a pressure test before an April explosion.

While John Guide said he had “no concern’’ about Kaluza on the rig, he questioned him about the test by phone after the blast. Guide testified yesterday before a US Coast Guard-Interior hearing in Louisiana. The final pressure tests didn’t provide adequate information, Guide said.

Kaluza on April 16 stepped in as a temporary replacement for Ronald Sepulvado, one of two well-site leaders overseeing the Macondo well about 40 miles off the Louisiana coast. The rig caught fire April 20 and sank two days later, leaving 11 people dead and leading to the largest oil spill in US history.

Kaluza, who had worked on BP’s Thunder Horse and Mad Dog deep-water projects, was on the witness list for a hearing on July 20. He refused to appear, citing his constitutional right against self-incrimination.

That really told you a whole lot of nothing.

It's what we call filler in these parts.

"Democrats drop signature climate bill; Aim to push for smaller energy version; Kerry vows to keep fighting for passage" by Globe Staff And Wire Services | July 23, 2010

WASHINGTON — Senators John F. Kerry and Harry Reid conceded yesterday that they have no chance of passing a comprehensive climate and energy bill any time soon, saying they would instead push for a limited bill to address problems with offshore oil drilling and to boost energy conservation....

For Kerry, the decision to at least shelve his signature climate legislation is a stinging setback.

See: Carbon Tax Morphs Into Energy Bill

When you begin thinking about it the Senator's career is marked by failure.

Lost in 2004, voted for Iraq, is still in favor of the butchery in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is a slave to Israel, can't get the American out of North Korea, can't get blind vets a reimbursed stipend, etc, etc.

Oh, right, he FINALLY got the unemployment checks flowing again.

With Senators Joe Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, and, initially, Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, the Massachusetts Democrat spent 18 months and thousands of hours in meetings with colleagues, environmentalists, and business leaders to craft and promote the bill....

Maybe that is why.

!

How you like that?

The decision to abandon the proposal in the Senate was another concession to the difficult political environment Democratic leaders face, as many rank-and-file are wary of casting any vote that could be used in political attacks by Republicans....

But after the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, President Obama sought to push the public and Congress to back the comprehensive approach, saying the accident illustrated the importance of reducing the nation’s dependence on oil.

Yeah, his attempt to capitalize on that opportunity to push his agenda really dropped him down in my eyes.

It was when I realized he was a failed president of a failed presidency and no amount of MSM propaganda, "terror events," or even a World War will change that.

If such things occur they will only make things worse.

In a speech last month in Pittsburgh, he said, “The votes may not be there right now, but I intend to find them in the coming months.’’

But the president and Kerry never found the votes....

A couple of losers.

But you know, it's August and we wouldn't want to ruin anyone's vacation -- especially the millions of Americans on forced vacations.

"Obama, family plan Gulf Coast getaway

WASHINGTON — Fresh off a family weekend getaway to Maine, President Obama and the first family are planning another weekend trip in August, this time to the Gulf Coast, a summer tourism destination suffering a drop in visitors due to publicity over the BP oil well disaster.

How many more greenhouse gases is he going to spew into the atmosphere as he wishes to slap a carbon tax on you, America?

The Obamas will travel to the region for the weekend of Aug. 14, the White House said. No other details were released.

The announcement follows rumblings from critics that the president should take his traditional August vacation on the Gulf Coast, to bring publicity and help the area recover from the economic damage caused by the disaster. Indicators remain strong, however, that the first family intends to return to Martha’s Vineyard for another vacation in August.

A family getaway to the gulf could help inoculate the president from charges that he abandoned the struggling region in favor of the pristine sands of the Massachusetts resort island.

Don't you LOVE the WORD CHOICE!?

So WHEN is his SHOT, MSM?

Pfffft!
