Plymouth Rock Radioactive

Would the colonists have landed if they knew that?

"Tritium detected at Pilgrim N-plant" by Carolyn Y. Johnson, Globe Staff | July 14, 2010

A monitoring well located on the ocean side of the Pilgrim Nuclear Station in Plymouth has registered elevated levels of the radioactive isotope tritium.

The tritium detected was still well below the Environmental Protection Agency’s maximum allowable level in drinking water and does not pose a risk to health or safety, said the Nuclear Regulatory Commission....

So says your lying government.

They sure tell plenty of them.

Pilgrim has 12 monitoring wells as part of a ground water protection initiative that the nuclear industry started after several high-profile cases of tritium leakage at the Indian Point nuclear plant in New York and the Braidwood nuclear power plant in Illinois. Earlier this year, a leak was discovered at Vermont Yankee in Vernon, Vt.

They told us they found it and shut it off.

Neil Sheehan, a spokesman for the NRC, said that the problem at Vermont Yankee was more significant than the one at Pilgrim appears to be....

So says your lying government.

That's right, the GOVERNMENT DEFENDED the LIARS over YOU, America!

Pilgrim is seeking a 20-year license renewal. Sheehan said it was possible, but not likely, that the discovery of elevated tritium levels would play a role in whether the plant receives approval.

Ralph Andersen — senior director of radiation, safety, and environmental protection at the Nuclear Energy Institute, a trade organization for the nuclear industry — said that the detection of the tritium was evidence the system was working.

If the "system was working" you wouldn't have detected any!!

That's why I worry about Vermont Yankee.

"Vt. board to hear nuclear plant testimony

The Vermont Public Service Board has set a hearing for Thursday evening at Brattleboro Union High School to take public testimony on whether it should order a shutdown of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. The board is considering a petition by groups critical of nuclear power that the plant be shut down until repairs can be completed to ensure any leaks of radioactive substances have stopped. (AP)."

I say shut down forever.

"Arrested protesters include 91-year-old

A 91-year-old Massachusetts woman was among eight people arrested while protesting at the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. Frances Crowe of Northampton and the others were arrested Tuesday after they walked past the main gate at Vermont Yankee, the state’s only nuclear plant. Local and State Police arrested the women and took them to the Vernon police station, where they were cited and released. They are due in court next month (AP) "

I know Crowe, and every time I see her I can't help but wonder what goes through her head. She certainly must see how protests have failed and things gone backwards the last 40 years.

Does she wonder -- as I do -- where are the youth?

And if the nuke plant is shut down where will Vermonters get their power?

"Vermont, Quebec to miss deadline on power deal; Both sides say they are close to an agreement" by Dave Gram, Associated Press | July 31, 2010

MONTPELIER — Vermont’s utilities and Hydro-Quebec will not make today’s deadline for completing a new long-term power-purchase contract, but officials said yesterday they are confident a deal is close and an announcement will happen soon....

Better check that faucet, readers.
