Whipping Up a War in Korea

Well then start another round:

"S. Korea denounces artillery fire by North" by Associated Press | August 11, 2010

SEOUL — South Korea denounced the firing of artillery from North Korea as a grave violation of their cease-fire and warned yesterday that it would deal “sternly’’ with any further provocations.

And what were all the boom-booms off the coast the last two weeks? Popcorn?

North Korea fired about 110 rounds from its western shores late Monday afternoon, just minutes after the South Korean military concluded five days of large-scale naval drills staged in response to the deadly sinking of a warship.

Most of the shells landed in North Korean waters, but about 10 reached South Korean waters not far from an island inhabited by fishing families and South Korean troops, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in Seoul. Officials reported no damage....

In a show of force, South Korea and the United States held massive joint military drills off the peninsula last month.

Yeah, but that is different!

"China condemns US-Korean naval drills" by Associated Press | August 13, 2010

BEIJING — China’s military yesterday condemned a second round of US-South Korean naval drills planned in the Yellow Sea in the coming weeks, vowing it would respond in kind.

Beijing opposes actions by foreign military ships and planes in waters near its coast that could “affect China’s security interests,’’ the military’s newspaper People’s Liberation Army Daily said in an editorial.

As if we would stand for Chinese war games of the coast of California.

“If no one harms me, I harm no one, but if someone harms me, I must harm them,’’ said the editorial, signed by Major General Luo Yuan, a frequent outspoken commentator on military matters.

Translation; the Chinese will not be to blame for the outbreak of war (which seems ever closer each day).

“As far as the Chinese people and the Chinese military are concerned, these are not joking remarks,’’ Luo wrote.

China has repeatedly criticized the drills, saying they risked heightening tensions on the Korean peninsula and ignored its objections.

The expected participation of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington is particularly irksome to China because of its status as a symbol of US power in the Pacific and the possibility of its F-18 warplanes flying within range of Beijing.

So we LIED to CHINA, huh?

The exercises are the second in a series of US-South Korean maneuvers to be conducted in the East Sea off Korea and the Yellow Sea. No date has been announced, but they are expected to occur in the coming weeks. The first maneuvers were conducted last week.

Although the Yellow Sea consists mostly of international waters, China regards it as lying within its vaguely defined security perimeter.

Yeah, if it were Israel committing an act of treacherous and murderous piracy the U.S. would have no problem.

And those borders sure sound like they are Israeli, not Chinese.

Enables the Israelis to steal more land whenever they want to and it is also why they refuse to recognize Palestine.

And now more deceptive, agenda-pushing BS:

"South Korean leader proposes plan for unification" by Chico Harlan, Washington Post | August 16, 2010

TOKYO — Saying that “unification will happen,’’ President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea yesterday proposed a three-step plan to unify the Korean peninsula and a new tax to help his country absorb the enormous costs of integration.

Unification talk, even hypothetical, is a delicate subject on the peninsula, especially at a time when North Korea is dealing with the poor health of its leader, Kim Jong Il, and a rushed succession process for his son, Kim Jong Eun. Analysts said Lee’s proposal will probably draw a sharp backlash from the North....

Why?

Lee's remarks reflect the growing sentiment among South Koreans that they must plan for a North Korean collapse....

Oh, I see, it is STILL all about REGIME CHANGE!

If North Korea collapses, South Korea would face a massive burden as refugees flood across the border, requiring hundreds of thousands of troops. The cost of unification, according to one study, would exceed $1 trillion.

So it is REUNIFICATION through WAR, huh?

Since the 1990s, the US and South Korean governments have quietly discussed contingency plans for North Korea’s collapse, but China — the North’s closest ally — has refused to join in, reluctant to anger Kim.

And here the newspapers tried to tell us Kim was just bluster over nothing!

And I love the China worried about angering Kim.

What a crock of crap.

Get ready for another false flag from the "unpredictable," but "reasonable" dictator as he is on his death bed.

Yeah, that will really be a good transition for the boy.

And CUI BONO?

Lee’s plan, similar to proposals from previous South Korean leaders, calls for North Korea’s denuclearization. If North Korea meets that demand — years of international persuasion have not succeeded — Lee’s plan calls for a “peace community,’’ improved economic cooperation, and then the establishment of a “national community.’’

Bunch of non-starting bulls***.

Lee, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, said: “It is imperative that the two sides choose coexistence instead of confrontation, progress instead of stagnation. The two of us need to overcome the current state of division and proceed with the goal of peaceful reunification.’’

Yeah, it SOUNDS GOOD!

Too bad the ACTIONS do not match the WORDS!

Relations between the two countries, which are still technically at war, have deteriorated during Lee’s presidency, hitting a low point with the torpedo sinking of the Cheonan warship in March, in which 46 South Korean sailors died. An international investigation said North Korea was to blame, but Pyongyang has denied responsibility. After the sinking, Lee announced a series of hard-line measures against the North, including cutting off nearly all trade.

And IRAN!

“Overall, I see a major contradiction in his proposal, proposing a unification tax while having burnt all the bridges with North Korea,’’ said Moon Chung-in, a professor of political science at Yonsei University.

And look at what DID NOT make my printed paper:

"S. Korea, US renew war games despite threat" by Associated Press | August 16, 2010

SEOUL — Tens of thousands of South Korean and US troops launched a fresh round of military drills today despite North Korea’s warning that it would retaliate with a “merciless counterblow’’ for the exercises, which Pyongyang considers rehearsal for invasion.

One can see why the North thinks that way now seeing as we are planning on it.

The 11-day drills are annual computer-simulated war games that involve about 56,000 South Korean soldiers and 30,000 US troops, South Korea’s Defense Ministry and the US command in Seoul said yesterday.

Yeah, readers, those ships and planes buzzing about and making the North Koreans and Chinese unhappy?

Not real!

Pffft!

They follow massive joint naval drills last month off South Korea’s east coast....

Yeah, because WE RESERVE the ARROGANT RIGHT to do WHATEVER WE WANT WHEREVER WE WANT whether anyone (except Israel) likes it or not!

I guess the Globe's invisible ink was not dry yet.

Still managed to work this in:

"US officials visited American in N. Korea" by Foster Klug, Associated Press | August 17, 2010

WASHINGTON — State Department officials made a secret visit to North Korea last week in an unsuccessful attempt to secure the release of an imprisoned Boston man who had reportedly attempted suicide in custody, a department spokesman said yesterday.

During the war games, huh?

A US consular official, two doctors and a translator were in Pyongyang from Aug. 9 to 11 visiting Aijalon Mahli Gomes in a hospital, but were unable to secure his release, spokesman P.J. Crowley said, providing few other details....

That is why you are getting few details.

Gomes' motivation for going to North Korea is unclear, but he had attended rallies in Seoul in support of a fellow Christian named Robert Park, who deliberately crossed into North Korea from China to call attention to the North’s human rights record. Park was expelled from the North after about 40 days.

“We want to have him home as soon as possible,’’ Crowley said of Gomes. “We’ve made that point clear to North Korea, and we’re going to continue to make that point clear to North Korea.’’

And those guys we are keeping forever at Gitmo?

The United States is worried about Gomes’s health, Crowley said. He wouldn’t provide details of Gomes’s condition because of privacy restrictions.

They have some nerve after torturing (and even killing) some people!

North Korea’s official news agency said last month that Gomes tried to kill himself because of “his strong guilty conscience’’ and despair that the US government had not tried to gain his freedom....

Yeah, the damn fool is surprised his CIA handler cut him loose!

And HOW MUCH of a THREAT can the sick and starving Koreans be?

PRAGUE — North Korea has offered a unique way to repay nearly $10 million in Cold War-era debt: with ginseng, according to Czech officials.

The Czech Finance Ministry said it has been negotiating ways for the impoverished Asian nation to pay back $9.8 million from the late 1980s, when Czechoslovakia was part of the communist bloc. Then, Czechoslovakia delivered to its North Korean ally trams, trucks, and various machines.

Why can't you just forgive it?

North Korea proposed during talks in July that the Czechs forgive 95 percent of the debt, but Czech officials said that was unacceptable.

Oh, okay, "friend."

The Czechs then suggested the North Koreans pay in goods, and North Korea proposed sending medical products made of ginseng. The ginseng root is touted as a cure-all for everything from headaches to sexual dysfunction....

So now the North Koreans will get even sicker.

Communist North Korea has relied on outside food handouts since the mid-1990s, when the economy collapsed due to natural disasters and mismanagement, and aid from the former Soviet Union dried up.

And since the U.S. and U.N. put on the sanctions squeeze!
