Sunday Globe Special: Ron Paul Places Second in New Hampshire Straw Poll

That's why I find it hard to believe he got trounced last time out; however, early polls of the people don't matter -- it's the rigged election machines that decide the winners in AmeriKa.

"Romney gets early support in party straw poll in N.H.

Former governor Mitt Romney yesterday won a New Hampshire straw poll of the Republican Party faithful, demonstrating his strength in the crucial first-in-the-nation primary state.

The poll, conducted at the Republican State Committee meeting in Derry, had Romney at 35 percent. Trailing him were Texas Representative Ron Paul (11 percent), former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty (8 percent), former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (7 percent), and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann (5 percent).

But in a further indication that the Granite State is moving toward the right, Tea Party-backed Jack Kimball was elected as the new state GOP chairman. He defeated the establishment-backed candidate, Juliana Bergeron, by a 222-to-199 vote in a show of strength for the Tea Party that could influence the state’s presidential primary field.

And Ron Paul did not do better? C'mon!

Although the party chairman has traditionally stayed neutral, Kimball made comments recently to NHJournal.com that he would attempt to “put forth a strong conservative presidential candidate.’’ The comments upset some of the party’s traditional power brokers who were supporting Bergeron. They also seemed to spell trouble for Romney, who has not been popular among Tea Party activists.

Then we won't be asking him to share any.

But the fact that Romney won the straw poll may bode well for his expected candidacy.

Well, which is it, Globe?

Romney has so far been presenting himself as

An INTERESTING CUT from my PRINTED PAPER HERE: "the establishment candidate"

Yeah, if you say that he's a SURE LOSER!

Hitching you back up to the web version:

a responsible mainstream leader with the necessary financial resources and credentials to beat President Obama.

Romney, who has a home in Wolfeboro, N.H., has spent time in the state campaigning for candidates, making donations, and helping the state elect a slate of Republicans in the midterm elections. The work seems to have paid off: He has also led in recent opinion polls in the state.

He may win New Hampshire; however, I just do not see a Mormon -- as unfair as it is -- winning the Republican primary for president. I think the candidate is someone not mentioned and so far unseen.

Nonetheless, the straw poll of several hundred state committee members was done more than a year before voters head to the polls for the presidential primary....

Yeah, pass that salt shaker -- and then dump the rest on the road.
