"Chorus for a Palestinian state; Dozens of Israel’s intellectuals prod government to act" April 20, 2011|By Ethan Bronner, New York Times
JERUSALEM — Dozens of Israel’s most honored intellectuals and artists have signed a declaration endorsing a Palestinian state....
The signers plan to announce their position today from the same spot in Tel Aviv where the Jewish state declared its independence in spring 1948. The page-long declaration is expected to be read there by Hanna Maron, one of the country’s best-known actresses and a past winner of the Israel Prize, the country’s most prestigious award, granted yearly on Independence Day.
Of the more than 60 who had signed by yesterday, about 20 were winners of the Israel Prize, and a number of others had been awarded the Emet Prize, given by the prime minister for excellence in science, art, and culture.
“The land of Israel is the birthplace of the Jewish people, where its identity was shaped,’’ the statement begins. “The land of Palestine is the birthplace of the Palestinian people, where its identity was formed.’’ It goes on to say that now is the time to live up to the commitment expressed in Israel’s Declaration of Independence by its founders to “extend our hand to all neighboring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighborliness.’’
Yaron Ezrahi, a political theorist at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem and one of the signers, added that, given the struggle for freedom in the Arab world today and the Palestinians’ plans to seek international recognition of their statehood by September, it is important for Israeli voices to be added to the call.
Two weeks ago, several dozen prominent Israelis, many of them from the fields of security and business, issued what they called the Israeli Peace Initiative, a more detailed but somewhat similar plan for a two-state solution....

"Palestinian leader: There will be no new uprising" April 20, 2011|Bouazza Ben Bouazza, Associated Press
The Palestinian president said Wednesday he is opposed to another armed uprising against Israel, even if faltering peace efforts fail later this year.
As if he really has a say.
Mahmoud Abbas told reporters in Tunisia he would turn to the U.N. General Assembly, where he said he expects some 140 countries to vote in favor of an independent Palestine.
Since the assembly’s decisions are not legally binding, the vote would would be largely symbolic, and it remains unclear what the Palestinians will do after that.
Abbas said whatever happens, he did not consider violence an option....
Oh, I AGREE!! Do an Egypt on them!
Some 6,000 Palestinians, along with more than 1,000 Israelis, were killed in years of fighting that erupted in September 2000. The fighting also heavily damaged the Palestinian economy.
The ratio of dead shows you the true aggressor.
The ISRAELI SIEGE also damaged the economy.
Abbas said he still supported “popular resistance’’ — or demonstrations — against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank. Israel says these demonstrations often turn violent, and activists are sporadically wounded, or even killed, in clashes with Israeli forces....
Yeah, it was their fault Israel had to kill them for demonstarating.

Yeah, NONVIOLENT PALESTINIANS certainly does NOT SERVE the AGENDA well! Better of pitching some bulls*** babble.
And forget about those Israelis killing Palestinians, too:
"1 Israeli killed, 4 hurt at West Bank holy site" April 25, 2011|Associated Press
JERUSALEM — A Palestinian police officer opened fire yesterday on a group of Israelis who had come to pray at a Jewish holy site in the West Bank without authorization, killing one and wounding four, the Israeli military said.
The shooting threatened to inflame tensions in the West Bank, where Jewish settlers and Palestinians live in uneasy proximity and where settlers have responded to attacks in the past with violent reprisals....
It's the whole Jews retaliating thing, blah, blah, blah.
Palestinian officials notified the Israeli military that the Israelis “were shot by a Palestinian policeman who, after identifying suspicious movements, fired in their direction,’’ the Israeli military said.
Were this an article about Israeli forces gunning some Gazan down it would have been reported as the victim was planting explosives, etc.
Israeli and Palestinian security forces work closely together to prevent violence.
That's why Abbas is not trusted.
A meeting between the sides was scheduled yesterday to discuss the shooting, the military said.
Jibril al-Bakri, the Palestinian governor of Nablus, said the Palestinian Authority was investigating. “The main problem is that they [the Israelis] entered the city without coordination,’’ Bakri said.
And when you think about, the region.
