Thaing Up the Cambodian Border

"analysts say domestic politics on both sides is driving the conflict as much as any disagreement between the countries"

Thus people must needlessly suffer and die because of domestic politics.

"6 killed as Thai, Cambodian armies clash" April 23, 2011|Associated Press

BANGKOK — Thailand and Cambodia exchanged artillery and gunfire for several hours yesterday in a flare-up of a long-running border dispute, and their militaries said six soldiers were killed.

The fighting near the ancient temples of Ta Krabey and Ta Moan forced thousands of civilians on both sides to flee. Cambodia said artillery fell on villages and other areas as far as 13 miles inside its territory.

It was the first skirmish reported since four days of fighting in February, when eight soldiers and civilians were killed near the Preah Vihear temple, about 100 miles to the east of yesterday’s fighting.

A decades-old border dispute over ancient temples and the land surrounding them has fueled nationalist passions in both countries. Each side blamed the other for the resumption of fighting....

"Thailand denies weapons charge

PHNOM PENH — Thailand strongly rejected accusations it used chemical weapons against Cambodian troops in fighting that extended into a second day yesterday and has killed 10 soldiers and forced thousands of civilians from their homes. Firing by both sides had ceased by noon, but the situation was still tense at nightfall (AP)."

A hidden brief, and you will see no more of it.

"Thai-Cambodian border clash enters 3d day" April 25, 2011|Associated Press

BANGKOK — Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged artillery fire yesterday in a third day of fighting that has killed 10 soldiers and uprooted thousands of villagers from their homes.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for a cease-fire, but the prospects for peace appeared shaky. The two sides disagree on what triggered the fighting and differ on how to negotiate the conflicting territorial claims underlying the crisis.

The dispute between the neighbors involves small swaths of land along the border, with nationalistic politics fueling tensions.  Clashes have erupted several times since 2008, when Cambodia’s 11th-century Preah Vihear temple was given UN World Heritage status over Thai objections....

So much for sovereignty when it comes to the U.N.

"Thailand shuts dissident radio stations" April 27, 2011|Associated Press

BANGKOK — Thai authorities forced the closure of 13 antigovernment radio stations yesterday in the biggest crackdown on dissident media since a state of emergency during street protests last year.

Thai E-News, a website associated with the antigovernment Red Shirt movement, said stations based in Bangkok and its suburbs were raided by law enforcement....

If you scroll through my Thailand file you will find that was a CIA-attempted coup -- with the corresponding agenda-pushing by the media.

The raids come at a time of political tension, as there are fears the country’s powerful military disagrees with the prime minister’s plans to hold an election by early July. The army has held a series of high-profile maneuvers, with the top brass declaring their dedication to protecting the monarchy.

The military is said to fear the return to power of allies of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whom it deposed in a 2006 coup amid accusations that he was corrupt and had showed disrespect to constitutional monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej....

A globalist stooge now hiding out in London.

The stations operated as so-called community radio stations, a system established to promote local public service radio, but has been used to maintain political mouthpieces for various groups....

That's the CIA paper's way of saying they were CIA broadcast outposts.

You would think the army would be busy enough at the border:

"Thai-Cambodia cease-fire over; 16 dead" April 30, 2011|Associated Press

PRASAT, Thailand — Thai and Cambodian troops broke a brief cease-fire and clashed for an eighth day yesterday, shattering hopes of a quick end to a long-running border conflict that has forced nearly 100,000 villagers to flee. The death toll rose to 16.

Fighting erupted in the morning and again briefly last night, both countries’ troops said as displaced residents on each side waited to see if the worst skirmishes in years between the Southeast Asian neighbors might finally end.

“I wish both sides could talk, so that there is no more fighting,’’ said Boonteung Somsed, a 58-year-old Thai construction worker who fled to the village of Prasat, about 20 miles from the border.

I gather that is the sympathies of MOST of the PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET WHEREVER THEY ARE FOUND!

Thailand and Cambodia have clashed six times since 2008 over the border, where several crumbling Hindu temples built nearly 1,000 years ago during the Khmer Empire sit atop cliffs and in jungles mined in wars past. The land has been disputed for more than half a century, but analysts say domestic politics on both sides is driving the conflict as much as any disagreement between the countries....

Fighting must have stopped because that's the last I've seen in my Glob.
