A sexual education teacher at North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg was charged Friday with raping a teenage student, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said.
Rachelle Gendron, 27, was arraigned Friday in Worcester Superior Court on charges of rape aggravated by age difference and enticing a person under 16, Early’s office said. Gendron pleaded not guilty.
Gendron is accused of having sexual relations with a male student between October 2012 and March 2013, prosecutors said. Gendron was 26 when the alleged relationship began, while the student was 14....
During bail arguments at Friday’s arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Riddle told the judge that Gendron also sent the student lewd photographs of herself in various states of undress, Early said.
Judge James R. Lemire ordered Gendron held on $2,000 bail, short of the $5,000 prosecutors had requested, Early’s office said. It was not immediately clear whether Gendron was able to post bail.
As a condition of her bail, Gendron was ordered to stay away from the student, the school, and children under 16, Early’s office said. She is also no longer working at the school, prosecutors said.
North Central officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to the school’s website, students in seventh through 12th grades attend the school.
The district attorney’s office said Gendron was represented by Andrea Levy, who did not respond to a request for comment Friday evening.

A Fitchburg sex-education teacher charged with raping a teenage student will return to court Oct. 10 for a pretrial hearing, her lawyer said Monday.
Rachelle Gendron, 27, was indicted and arraigned Friday on charges in connection with an alleged relationship with a male student who attended North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg, where the defendant taught, prosecutors said after the court session.
Gendron’s lawyer, Edward P. Ryan Jr., said his client was released after she posted the $2,000 bail set at her arraignment in Worcester Superior Court, and said Gendron was “absolutely” maintaining her innocence.
“She’s holding up well,” Ryan said, “but these are serious and overwhelming allegations.”
The charter school released a statement over the weekend expressing shock at the allegations and defending its response to the charges.
“Upon first learning of those allegations, we took prompt and appropriate action consistent with the best interests of our students, which included swiftly terminating the individual and fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities investigating this matter,” the statement said.
It was not immediately clear when the allegations came to light or when Gendron was terminated from her position at the school.
Gendron was charged with five counts of rape aggravated by difference of age and with enticing a person under age 16, for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a male student at North Central Charter. Prosecutors say Gendron was 26 and the victim was 14 when the alleged relationship began last October.
As part of bail arguments during Gendron’s arraignment Friday, Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Riddle presented evidence to Judge James R. Lemire that the teacher had sent lewd pictures of herself to the victim, a representative of Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said Friday.

As part of the conditions of her release, Gendron was ordered by the judge to stay away from the victim, the school, and children under 16.
Ryan said he and cocounsel Andrea Levy will be sorting through the prosecution’s evidence to build a defense for Gendron.
“We need to get all of the discovery that support all of these allegations,” Ryan said.
“We’re going to analyze it, and then we’re going to move forward and defend our client.”

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida teen accused of having sex with her underage girlfriend accepted a plea deal Thursday that her attorney says is in her best interest.
Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, pleaded no contest to battery, interference with child custody and contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child.
Hunt was charged in February with having sex with a 14-year-old female schoolmate. Hunt was 18 at the time. A previous plea deal was withdrawn in August following allegations that Hunt exchanged thousands of texts with the girl and sent her nude photos.
Of course, the stoo-pid kids think no one is going to see it because they have been around this stuff their whole lives and have been told it is cool by the corporate pre$$ -- never releasing their gadgets and gizmos are a direct line to the NSA and other pud-whacking government monitors. They saw all your photos, kids. It's been well reported. Not in the agenda-pu$hing corporate pre$$, but elsewhere.
A judge revoked her bond, sending her to jail. Prosecutors added a charge of transmitting material harmful to a minor.
Not that I'm for rape of any kind; however, given the closeness in age here it is worth observing that love gets a jail sentence while the mass-murder of millions based on mouthpiece media lies gets nothing. Torture gets nothing. Looting the nation dry, nothing. Love a fellow human being, jail. Whatta government!
Under the terms of Thursday’s deal, Hunt will stay in jail until mid-December but won’t have to register as a sex offender. She is prohibited from having contact with her girlfriend, faces probation and must perform 150 hours of community service.
What if they still love each other? I mean kids will be kids. Ever hear of Romeo and Juliet?
Her attorney, A. Julia Graves, said in a letter to Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers that Hunt’s goal after completing the conditions of her deal would be to work toward changing the law so that teens attending the same school can’t be prosecuted for having sexual relationships, regardless of sexual orientation.
‘‘Kaitlyn, her family, friends and supporters never want to see another teenager in this kind of situation,’’ Graves said.

A Franklin High School teacher is on paid leave while authorities investigate a “serious allegation of misconduct” brought against the instructor, school officials said in a statement Monday.
“The administration was devastated by hearing of this allegation, and we acted immediately,” officials at the Franklin public schools said in a statement. “Upon learning of this allegation, a report was made to the Franklin Police Department and the Franklin public schools [are] cooperating with the police in this regard.”
The statement did not identify the teacher or provide any details of the allegation.
Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski said in an e-mail that administrators learned of the accusation about a week and a half ago, when an employee learned of it through comments on Twitter and text messaging.
She declined to say what the teacher is accused of doing or whether officials have any evidence that a student has been harmed.
“My apologies, but the legalities and due-process aspects must be honored to have a legitimate and fair outcome to this situation,” Sabolinski wrote.
The school principal could not be reached for comment Monday evening, and a Franklin police dispatcher referred questions to Chief Stephan H. Semerjian, who also could not be reached.
School officials said in their statement that they also contacted the state Department of Children and Families.
A spokeswoman for the agency said in an e-mail that the office “received a report and made the appropriate referral to the local district attorney’s office,” but declined to comment further.
A spokesman for the Norfolk district attorney’s office said Monday night that no criminal charges were pending against a Franklin High School staff member, but he declined to say whether a teacher is under investigation, citing standard protocol.
“The alleged incident is disturbing and does not reflect the expectations we espouse as a school district or as a community,” school officials said in their statement. “We are committed to ensuring all of our students are safe, both physically and emotionally.”
The first day of school at Franklin High is Tuesday, according to its website.
“We will continue to work closely with relevant agencies and to take any appropriate actions in response,” the statement said. “We will ensure that this investigation is conducted thoroughly and with complete understanding of our obligation to uphold our public duty to our students.”
The statement continued, “Our focus and mission at this time is to protect the confidentiality of our students as we open school for the 2013-2014 school year.”

The Framingham school district has agreed to respond “promptly and equitably” to future complaints of sexual harassment and is overhauling its policies, more than a year after a male student allegedly assaulted two female students inside the high school.
The school district volunteered to make the changes, with the help of two paid consultants, to end an investigation by the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
Kevin Fox, a former social worker at the high school, filed the complaint in March because he said the school had done too little to investigate reports of the assaults, which allegedly occurred in 2012.
Fox resigned in March, the day of an assembly about violence against women, because he believed administrators had mishandled the case. “I really couldn’t stand the hypocrisy any more,” he said. Some students protested the school’s response as well.

But on Wednesday, Fox said he believes the Office for Civil Rights agreement is a vast improvement in the district’s policy on sexual discrimination.
“I’m delighted with it,” Fox said. “I think it was absolutely necessary. I think it is going to put into place rigid guidelines that those who work at the place need to follow.”
The federal office was investigating Fox’s allegations that the district failed to respond to a hostile environment based on gender at the high school and did not have a procedure for addressing complaints of sex discrimination....
