Slow Saturday Special: McCarthy's Me$$

"Contractor faces new charges of defrauding employees, customers" by Jacqueline Tempera |  Globe Correspondent, January 18, 2014

A contractor who is already facing more than 100 charges, ranging from larceny to identity theft, was arraigned Friday in Salem District Court on new charges that he swindled money from contracting clients, said a spokeswoman in the Essex district attorney’s office.

The new charges against James McCarthy, 52, include home improvement contractor fraud, two counts of ID fraud, and making a false statement to get a contract, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokeswoman for the Essex district attorney’s office.

In Haverhill District Court in July, McCarthy was accused of cheating more than a dozen people, including contracting clients, employees, landlord, his former wife, and a cancer-stricken daughter, out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. After he posted bail on those charges, McCarthy allegedly opened a new business under a false name, Monahan said.

“What he does is finds clients that pay up front,” said Monahan. “And then he doesn’t complete the work.”

I wonder if he worked on the Obummercare website or the state unemployment software.
