TEMPE — Hillary Rodham Clinton told an audience of college students that their generation showed great promise as ‘‘open-minded and tolerant’’ Americans ready to step forward for an important cause. ‘‘We are going to make sure the millennial generation really is the participation generation,’’ Clinton said Friday night in a speech at Arizona State University, which is hosting the annual Clinton Global Initiative University conference. Clinton, who is considering a second campaign for the White House, will speak at Simmons College in Boston next month (AP)."

"Officer fatally shot after stopping pair

WINDERMERE — A police officer was shot and killed early Saturday after stopping two people and calling for help in an Orlando suburb. Officer Robert German called for backup after stopping a young man and woman on foot shortly before 4 a.m., investigators said. German, 31, was found lying on the ground when a deputy arrived at the scene. Two individuals were found shot to death nearby, matching the description of the man and woman that German had stopped. They are believed to have committed suicide, police officials said (AP)."

C'mon! He killed them and got killed when one of them managed to fire back!

"Multivehicle crash kills at least 33

ISLAMABAD — At least 33 people were killed Saturday in related crashes involving two tanker trucks and two buses on a highway in southern Pakistan. At least 20 others were injured, many with severe burns. The crash occurred at 6:30 a.m. in Hub, when a truck got stuck in a hole and a bus traveling behind struck it. The other crash occurred when the second bus tried to bypass the pileup (AP)."

"16 people killed in wave of attacks

BAGHDAD — A series of attacks across Iraq killed 16 members of security forces and civilians Saturday. Two bombings in Tikrit killed five police officers and two civilians. A suicide bomber near Adeim killed three civilians and three police officers. Two soldiers were killed by a bomb near Mosul. In Basra, gunmen killed a police official. An Iraqi journalist was shot and killed in Baghdad (AP)."

Nothing new in Iraq, just same old, same old.
