"Brockton man indicted for Oct. 5 murder, several other charges" by Aneri Pattani, Globe Correspondent March 27, 2015
A Brockton man was indicted on charges including murder by a Plymouth County grand jury on Thursday, officials said.
Michael Starks, 25, was indicted in the Oct. 5 murderslaying of Helmae Zewdu, 34, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement Friday. Starks also faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, threats, and carrying a firearm.
He may also face enhanced penalties due to two prior serious drug offenses related to a separate shooting on Oct. 4 at the home of the mother of his girlfriend on Foster Street in Brockton, prosecutors said.
On Oct. 5, police found Zewdu’s body with multiple fatal gunshot wounds on Eagle Avenue near Cross Street in Brockton, prosecutors said.
The Foster Street shooting occurred only seven hours earlier. Ballistics evidence allegedly linked the two events, prosecutors said.
Starks is being held without bail after his arraignment in Brockton District Court for the Foster Street shooting. He is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on Wednesday in Brockton Superior Court.
