This Morning in New England

Just getting ready for a long day of white stuff, although as it has been all winter here, starting off mild so far.

In many ways I view it as a good thing. Less harm can be done; however, any fatalities bother me and the suffering of power outages is a concern with these freezing temperatures.

What we are expecting here:

"‘Classic’ northeaster expected to batter region today" by Stewart Bishop and Shana Wickett, Globe Correspondents | February 10, 2010

A major snowstorm is expected to batter the area today, closing down schools, causing snow emergencies in communities, and possibly making a nightmare of the evening commute.

The storm is expected to bring 6 to 9 inches of snow to the Boston area, but the heaviest snowfall is expected to hit the interior of Southeastern Massachusetts, where some areas will get over a foot, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson.

A winter storm watch for this morning through late tonight has been issued for Suffolk County, Norfolk County, southern Worcester County, Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape and Islands, Rhode Island, and northern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

Maybe we will get lucky again.

Why not? We already have a cancer leak upstream.

Dozens of school districts began announcing closures or early dismissals yesterday. Public schools in Boston, Revere, Fall River, Everett, Somerville, and Middleborough are among the districts closed today....

Simpson said the bulk of the snow will hit between 2 and 6 p.m....

Hate to say it, but maybe I'll take in a movie at that time.

“We’re looking at a classic nor’easter.’’

Yup, looking better all the time.

Simpson said he expects a barrage of heavy, wet snow. “You could definitely make snowballs out of it if you want to,’’ he said....

My back isn't looking forward to that.

Simpson said the storm should taper off by late evening, and fairer weather should return tomorrow.

Snowfall is down this year with 28.9 inches so far in the Boston area compared with 54.1 at the same time last year, the weather service said.

Just as I said! I never lie to you, readers!

That's the newspaper's job.

The average accumulation for this time of year is 26 inches....

Yeah, just as Farmer's predicted.

"With D.C. in drifts, some lawmakers dig in at home; House shuttered as another storm batters capital Senators prove hardier bunch" by Matt Viser and Lisa Wangsness, Globe Staff | February 10, 2010

WASHINGTON - With the nation’s capital paralyzed by snow - and no House votes scheduled for at least 12 days - many representatives in the Massachusetts delegation have packed their bags and gone home....

Can we give them a permanent vacation?

Snow has gripped this city, with the asphalt on the roads only recently becoming visible after a weekend storm dropped more than 2 feet of snow. Another storm hit last night....

Better not be working on global-warming legislation, I can tell you that -- although maybe that anger will melt some of the snow as I shovel later!

As long as the power holds out I will post for you, dear readers.
