Casino Comparisons: The Maine Message

They just WON'T GET IT!!!

"New vote sought on casinos in Maine; Group gathers signatures" by David Sharp, Associated Press | October 16, 2009

PORTLAND, Maine - Leaders of a new group that is launching an effort to win approval for a casino in western Maine are ready to begin collecting signatures to force a referendum next year....

The antigambling group Casinos NO! said Mainers already rejected a casino in Oxford County, and they’ll do it again.

“They’re out to prove Einstein’s definition of insanity. They keep trying to do the same thing and expect a different result,’’ spokesman Dennis Bailey said. “We’ve debated this over and over again. There’s no reason to think Maine people have changed their minds.

The dream of casino gambling has been alive since 2003, when the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy tribes promoted a $650 million casino in Sanford. That measure was defeated at the polls, but those same voters gave their approval for a racetrack casino. That led to Bangor’s Hollywood Slots complex. Since then, efforts to expand gambling have failed.

Governor John Baldacci vetoed a Passamaquoddy-backed bill to create a racino in Washington County and the Legislature rejected a Penobscot-backed bill to allow slot machines on Indian Island. Then voters rejected the Oxford County casino last year. As with the last campaign, casino supporters say the Oxford County and state economy would benefit from the proposal, which would create nearly 1,000 jobs....

I for one am tired of looting liars, but if you want them....

During a news conference, the group sought to play up the resort aspect of the development.

“This isn’t a casino that happens to have a resort,’’ Black Bear Entertainment LLC spokesman Peter Martin said. “This is a four-season resort that happens to have a casino.’’

But gambling revenue is the driving force....

Just so we are clear on it all.

I just can;t help but think that lawmakers do not care about you, your vote, or your wishes, readers, not when a certain $omething is dangled in front to their face$.

"Backers of Maine casino hope to force a Nov. vote; Turn in petitions signed by 90,000" by Glenn Adams, Associated Press | December 23, 2009

AUGUSTA, Maine - Hoping to force another referendum next year on whether to allow a casino in western Maine, supporters turned in petitions yesterday that they said have more than 90,000 signatures to state election officials.

You know, they are LIKE a RAPIST!

Can't they TAKE NO for an ANSWER?!!!

“The voters are ready - ready for economic development,’’ said Peter Martin of Black Bear Entertainment LLC, which wants to develop a four-season casino-resort in Oxford....

I want those signatures checked, and I want to know what kickbacks, 'er, tax loot they will be receiving.

Maine voters have repeatedly rejected such initiatives since 2003....

And yet HERE THEY ARE AGAIN!

Can you FILE a HARASSMENT SUIT against them as a voter?

However....

I'm not even going to type it.

Martin said casino backers are confident this time around, given the economic malaise and lack of jobs in the state. “People of Maine are tired; they’re frustrated,’’ Martin said.

And ALL the EASIER to PREY ON, ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!

Martin said the casino expects to employ 1,000 people by its third year.

Of course, some expectations are never realized.

If state officials find enough signatures to trigger a vote, they must first send the proposal to the Legislature, where rejection is likely. Governor John Baldacci also opposes casino expansion in the state. Legislative rejection or a veto would send the proposal to voters.

Yeah, even EVERYONE in STATE GOVERNMENT OPPOSES IT, too, and yet HERE IT COMES AGAIN!!

Martin defended the proposal, saying it drops the language in the last one that drew heavy criticism, such as a provision to lower Maine’s legal casino gambling age from 21 to 19.

Is there no end to the nefariousness of these vultures?

He also called it “the largest private education stimulus package ever offered in the state of Maine.’’

WTF is he talking about?

Yeah, losing all your money in a whizz-bang of a headache machine will teach you an education, will it not?

FLASHFORWARD:

"Maine tribe seeks casino ballot question

AUGUSTA, Maine --A Maine tribal governor said Tuesday he is aiming to get a referendum on the November statewide ballot asking voters to allow a tribal casino in eastern Maine.

Keep those crooks out of your state.

William Nicholas, governor of Passmaquoddy Tribe's Indian Township reservation, said tribal legislative representatives are working on details that would allow a referendum to move forward without the tribes having to collect more than 50,000 signatures to get on the ballot.

Why? Why should they be able to skirt the rules?

If state lawmakers put the measure on the ballot, it would compete against another question seeking approval for a casino proposal in western Maine. Voters would also have the option of rejecting both proposals.

I suggest you take that option, Maine voters.

Mainers in 2003 and again in 2007 rejected referendums from the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy tribes seeking approval for a tribal casino. The tribes aren't giving up, Nicholas said....

Gee, what part of democracy do they not understand?

Oh, when it is an approved piece of the agenda it is okay to keep coming back and back and back, huh?
