Boston Cops Play Rough

Seems to be a pattern with them.

"Outside review of arrest ordered; DA starts inquiry into use of force" by Maria Cramer, Globe Staff /
October 29, 2010

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley assigned his top prosecutor yesterday to review the violent arrest of a teenager last week, whose capture by police was recorded on video by a witness and posted on YouTube.

Conley launched the investigation, a highly unusual move made with the consent of the police commissioner, as Mayor Thomas M. Menino said he was troubled by the video, which shows an officer fiercely punching and kneeing the 16-year-old male.

Still, Menino urged the public not to rush to judgment before the investigation is complete.

Unless it's "terrorists" comin' to get us!

“I’m really concerned about the actions of the officers on the video,’’ Menino said in a telephone interview. “The clip that you see shows some perception of excess aggressiveness. But it’s perception. We don’t know if it’s real or not.’’

Ask the kid who took the beating if it was real.

The release of the video also underscored the pressure that new technology has placed on police, whose every move on the street can be recorded by anyone with a cellphone and posted online....

What, the FASCIST AUTHORITIES DO NOT LIKE IT when the TOOLS of TYRANNY are PLACED on THEM?

Here they are with their CAMERAS and their SPYING and everything else and NOW THEY ARE COMPLAINING when THEY ARE CAUGHT?

Sig heil, Bostonians!

The teenager, whose name has not been released, had just fled juvenile custody and violently resisted arrest when officers caught up with him at a college entrance, police have said.

Oh, that is what the COPS SAID, huh?

Yeah, HE DESERVED a BEATING!

The teenager has a pending charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to his criminal record....

Like I said, he deserved a beating (even though he didn't have a gun).

Community leaders, however, said it is too early to judge the police, especially since the video does not show what led to the beating....

Well I GIVE UP on the "community leaders" of Boston.

They must be AFRAID of a WHOOPIN' if they CRITICIZE the COPS!

Because I am not a member the Globe will not let me access the rest.

It really doesn't matter; the rest of the article was a complete absolution and apology on behalf of the Boston PD.

And it turns out the SAME COP KILLED a KID!

"Officer in video was investigated in ’08 death; On paid desk duty as review goes on" by Maria Cramer, Globe Staff / October 30, 2010

The Boston police officer seen on a video punching and kneeing a teenager during an arrest last week was also investigated two years ago for his role in the arrest of an Emmanuel College student, who died after a confrontation with police.

Michael T. McManus, a patrol officer assigned to the district that covers Roxbury, has been taken off patrols and placed on administrative duty, police said yesterday.

McManus, 32, is one of at least six officers seen swarming a 16-year-old boy on Oct. 22 at an entrance of Roxbury Community College, where a student filmed the violent arrest with a camera phone and then posted it on YouTube....

You guys must be weak as s*** if one of you can't handle a kid.

McManus joined the department in 2007. In 2008, he was among nine officers patrolling the Kenmore Square area during the Celtics championship celebration.

David Woodman, a 22-year-old Emmanuel College student, walked by them, holding a cup of beer.
McManus ordered him to stop. When Woodman kept walking, McManus rushed up to him and grabbed his hand.

After a violent struggle, McManus and other officers forced him down to handcuff him. Woodman, who had a heart condition, stopped breathing.

One of the officers tried to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, while McManus performed chest compressions.

Boston police and separate investigations by Conley and an independent panel found that Woodman may have stopped breathing for several minutes before officers realized his condition, but that his death was not a consequence of the struggle....

You decide for yourself whether you want to believe that recapped piece of rubbish the Globe is shoveling at you, readers.

As for now I can't access the second half of the article; however, I thought this little tidbit from the printed paper might be of interest:

City officials have expressed concern about how the images on the video could affect relations between police and the minority community, which traditionally is reluctant to cooperate in criminal investigations.

Why wouldn't they want to cooperate with Boston's finest?

Most of the officers seen in the video surrounding the suspect, who is black, are white
