Senate ratifies arms accord
The fierce opposition diminished quickly as former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, six former Republican secretaries of state and much of the nation’s military and foreign policy specialists called for the treaty’s ratification.

Lame Lame-Duck Session
What you begin to realize is the treaty was important because it upgraded the U.S. nuclear arsenal. That'$ why it needed to be pa$$ed, and why all the globalists weighed in.
Weeks after Republicans routed Democrats at the polls — seizing control of the House and strengthening their numbers in the Senate — Obama has prevailed in securing overwhelming bipartisan approval of a tax deal with Republicans, getting repeal of the 17-year-old ban on openly gay military members, and winning approval of the treaty. The treaty capped a hefty yearlong record of legislation for the Democratic-controlled Congress, including a massive overhaul of the health care system, new financial regulations, and a food safety bill as well as the postelection measures.
That's the Globe's take on it.
I consider a health tax for crappy corporate coverage, a toothless financial bill, and food fascism as failures -- but that's me.
More failure:
Kerry kept focus sharp amid drama
In one of the biggest triumphs of his 25-year Senate career, Kerry managed to keep START on track over the next 10 days despite the fury of key Republicans. He and his allies, including Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, fielded an intense lobbying campaign, headquartered in a quick-response war room that hummed with staff members.
I have noticed that DARN NEAR EVERYTHING is FRAMED with a WAR CONTEXT in my Zionist War Daily -- and I am sick and tired of it. That's why the stack of unread Globes grows by the day.
The effort was aided by a critical last-minute, classified intelligence briefing and pressure from high-ranking military officers, applied at key moments throughout more than 70 hours of floor debate over the past week....
Like the last-minute war propaganda that led us into Iraq?
“My hat’s off to the Democratic leadership; they’re running rings around us,’’ a frustrated Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, told reporters this week as the last votes for START were falling into place. “They’re like Sherman going through Georgia here.’’
Liberals are excused for asking where the hell they have been the last two years -- or two weeks given the tax bill that passed.

As the treaty came up for floor debate this month, Kerry set up a war room in the offices of the Foreign Relations Committee in the US Capitol building.
When they going to set up a war room to battle the banks?
Speaking of wars:
Pentagon gets final OK for $160b to fight wars
I notice the wars never want for money no matter which party is in control.
WASHINGTON — Congress gave final approval yesterday to legislation that authorizes the Pentagon to spend nearly $160 billion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan this budget year without major restrictions on the conduct of operations. The bill passed the House and Senate on voice votes after Democrats agreed to strip several provisions, including one that would have allowed gays to serve openly in the military and another dealing with abortions at overseas bases.
This year’s bill agreed to $725 billion in defense programs, including $158.7 billion for overseas combat.
And the federal budget is about $1.5 trillion.
You do the math.
About half, isn't it?
Ah, the costs and burdens of empire, American taxpayers.
And it will take any body it can get these days:
"President urges lawmakers to revisit the Dream Act
WASHINGTON — President Obama made an impassioned pitch yesterday for the next Congress to take up again what’s known as the Dream Act, telling reporters at a news conference that the bill’s failure was one of his biggest regrets.
The legislation, which was passed in the House but killed by a GOP filibuster in the Senate, would have provided a path to citizenship for children who were brought to the United States at a young age by parents who were undocumented immigrants. The bill would have required the children to receive a college education or serve in the military to get citizenship.

President signs repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy
“I say to all Americans, gay or straight, who want nothing more than to defend this country in uniform, your country needs you, your country wants you, and we will be honored to welcome you into the ranks of the finest military the world has ever known,’’ Obama said.
Just don't tell and we won't ask.
And didn't the previous article say the Democrats stripped that out?
Btw, the hubris is quite distasteful for a military that is about to lose the next world war they so badly want.
