"Congress OK’s stripped-down spending bill; President is expected to sign measure" by Andrew Taylor, Associated Press / December 22, 2010
WASHINGTON —A stripped-down measure that would provide $160 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan....
The measure is needed because the Democratic-controlled Congress — in an unprecedented breakdown of the budget process — has failed to pass a single one of the 12 annual spending bills that fund the day-to-day operations of every federal agency.
This when they had 59 senators and control of the House and White House. No wonder they were booted by the American people.
The spending bill is expected to protect, at least temporarily, a large defense contract funding a jet engine that would be partially built in Lynn, Mass. General Electric, which makes the backup prototype engine to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, said the program would provide up to 400 jobs in Lynn.

I just thought you should know why you are funding an engine the Pentagon does not want, American taxpayers.
Although the legislation does not include a specific provision for the backup engine, a key interpretation from the Office of Management and Budget indicates the project will continue to be funded....
The legislation also includes a provision that allows the Navy to award 10 new coastal ships. The combat ships would be built by a consortium including General Dynamics, which said it would add 500 jobs to an electronics plant in Pittsfield if the project is approved....
Yup, WAR is GOOD BIDNESS in AmeriKa!!
The rest of the budget is dominated by benefit programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and the Medicaid health care program for the poor and disabled.
Look, HALF of the $1.5 TRILLION the government spends now is on "defense" -- and here the paper is trying to imply it is the HOLLOWED-OUT SOCIAL SERVICES that are NON-EXISTENT is the problem?
--more--"
Too bad you DID NOT BECOME a BANKER, 'murkn!
I guess here is why:
"1 in 4 fail Army’s basic skills test, raising worries about readiness; Results cast a harsh light on education system" by Christine Armario and Dorie Turner, Associated Press / December 22, 2010
MIAMI — Nearly one-fourth of the students who try to join the US Army fail its entrance exam, painting a grim picture of an education system that produces graduates who can’t answer basic math, science, and reading questions, according to a study released yesterday.
That's what happens when schools become indoctrination centers for gay, global-warming, and all the other mind-manipulating stuff they can shove in the kids heads -- with all its phony accoutrements.
Don't tell me about it because I WAS THERE! I have the WORTHLESS PIECE of PAPER in a drawer somewhere!
The report by The Education Trust bolsters a growing worry among military and education leaders that the pool of young people qualified for military service will shrink.
Why worry? Have MORE WARS PLANNED, do you?
“Too many of our high school students are not graduating ready to begin college or a career — and many are not eligible to serve in our armed forces,’’ US Education Secretary Arne Duncan said. “I am deeply troubled by the national security burden created by America’s underperforming education system.’’
********
Educators expressed dismay that so many high school graduates are unable to pass a test of basic skills....
Well, that is what happens when you feed them dog-doo and call it ejerkashun.
