The Secret History of Afghanistan

I know it, but I like to stay current.

"A clash of history, future in Afghanistan" by Heidi Vogt, Associated Press / December 12, 2010

MES AYNAK, Afghanistan —The mine is the centerpiece of China’s drive to invest in Afghanistan, a country trying to get its economy off the ground while mired in war. Beijing’s $3.5 billion stake in the mine — the largest foreign investment in Afghanistan by far — gets its foot in the door for future deals to exploit Afghanistan’s largely untapped mineral wealth. The Afghan government stands to reap $1.2 billion a year in revenues from the mine, as well as the creation of much needed jobs.

And thus the AmeriKans have tensions with Karzai.

But hanging over the situation is....

Always a but with the AmeriKan media.

So what is it this time?

--more--"

I have an interesting take on the situation since my Eastern Religions professor in college told me the back story on the Buddha. Turns out the Taliban took it down because the U.N. wanted to spend millions on restoration while Afghan kids were starving.  To this day I have never seen that revelation in an American newspaper.  Must not fit the agenda.

And it certainly couldn't be AmeriKan occupiers hanging over the situation either.
