Good Luck For Jonathan in Nigerian Election

As long as the oil keeps flowing the U.S. doesn't care.

"Early results show Nigeria’s president likely reelected" April 18, 2011|Associated Press

ABUJA, Nigeria — Meanwhile, authorities in this northern Nigerian city said eight people were wounded after a bomb exploded at a hotel in a poor neighborhood hours after voters cast their ballots.

????????

Police said they had two suspects in custody after the bombing Saturday night at the Happy Hotel. The motive for the attack was not determined....

Nigeria has a long history of violent and rigged polls; however, observers largely said Saturday’s poll appeared to be fair....

That the world community signing off on the results?

It's good luck getting that globalist seal-of-approval isn't it, Jonathan?

"Amid rioting, Nigeria’s president declared election winner" April 19, 2011|By Jon Gambrell, Associated Press

Oh, yeah, ignore the riots, too.

Oil still flowing?

ABUJA, Nigeria — President Goodluck Jonathan was declared the winner of the presidential election yesterday, as rioting swept across the Muslim north.

The violence cut across 13 states, demonstrating the religious and ethnic tensions that divide Africa’s most populous nation....

I've tossed in the towel on that whole religious divide crap.

Just not buying it anymore because of cui bono.

While Christians and Muslims have shared the same soil for centuries, the election result showing the Christian president’s more than 10 million vote lead over Muslim candidate Muhammadu Buhari stoked resentment.

Whadda ya' mean it's all about LAND?

There were accusations of election rigging in the nation, long accustomed to ballot box stuffing....

They didn't have computer software someone could screw with like in AmeriKan elections?

Buhari’s party brought a formal complaint against the nation’s electoral commission even before the vote count ended, alleging massive rigging in Jonathan’s homeland of the Niger Delta.

If only Democrats would have such balls; of course, if they ever challenged very hard they would destroy the foundations and integrity (as if there were any) of AmeriKan elections -- including their own!

The letter also alleged that the computer software used to tally results had been tampered with in northern states to favor the ruling People’s Democratic Party.

Oh, they DID RUN IT like an AmeriKan election!!!

Buhari’s party and the opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria, refused to sign off on the results.

Violence began Sunday in the north, but took full hold yesterday morning....

Yeah, but is the oil still flowing?

In Kaduna, home to the oil-rich nation’s vice president, young men burned tires in the streets and threw stones at police and soldiers trying to restore order, witnesses said. Police reported a prison break in neighboring Katsina state engineered by a mob. Youths targeted ruling party officials in Bauchi state, as well.

The violence did not affect Nigeria’s southern delta, where foreign companies pump more than 2 million barrels of crude a day out of a country crucial to US gasoline supplies....

Oh, GOOD, because the PRICE is RISING FASTER than the collapse of three WTC towers due to fire!

Do you think about such things at the pump, Americans, or id your head just filled with thoughts on non-existent global warming?

Why is everyone around me commenting on how cool this non-existent spring has been?

If oblivious Americans are noticing.... (sigh)?

"Riots continue in Nigeria over Jonathan win" April 20, 2011|Bloomberg News

ABUJA, Nigeria — President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria will need to convince northerners that he is a credible ruler for all Nigerians while relying on a divided legislature to pass laws to regulate oil exploration and promote investment in the industry....

That's why the vote was sanctioned as fair. Good thing Goodluck agreed to the plan.

And why would he need to convince anyone about his credibility if he legitimately won an election?

I don't think this move will be helping matters:

"Ballots taken in raid at Nigerian polling site" April 27, 2011|Associated Press

IKOT EFUM, Nigeria — Gunmen fired Kalashnikov rifles in the air and others brandished machetes while storming a polling place here yesterday, as voters in Africa’s most populous nation struggled to cast ballots after the presidential election sparked riots killing at least 500 people last week.

The attackers made off with the unused ballots, the ballot box, and the youth volunteer in charge of this village’s election in Akwa Ibom state, witnesses said.

Took more than the election hostage, 'eh?

Although international observers applauded Nigeria’s legislative and presidential elections held earlier this month, the violence that has erupted in the aftermath has threatened the stability of this major US oil-supplying nation....

Which is why there has been not a peep of criticism from the White House.

How strange that everywhere the international community sanctions elections there is violence.

Well, good luck, Goodluck!  I believe you know who not to cross?
