Indians Protest

As long as it is nonviolent.

"Protesters in India call for strong law on corruption" April 07, 2011|By Rama Lakshmi, Washington Post

NEW DELHI — Indians fed up with recent corruption scandals have launched a nationwide protest demanding that they be allowed to participate in drafting a tough, national antigraft law....

The demonstrators — students, teachers, executives, lawyers, doctors, retired officials, and activists — held placards and shouted slogans denouncing the government-proposed ombudsman’s bill....

That is like, EVERYBODY except the political and financial elite!!!!!!!!!!

Other concerns the Indians legitimately have:

"Rioting overtakes protests in India on nuclear plants" April 20, 2011|Associated Press

NEW DELHI — A mob opposing a government plan to build a nuclear plant in the western Indian state of Maharashtra ransacked a hospital and set buses on fire yesterday during a protest strike.

I'm not for the violence, but I can understand it.  No surprise the pro-nuclear paper i$ calling the people opposed a mob.

Residents of Jaitapur have been protesting the proposed plant since the government’s plans became public four years ago.

Really?  First I can remember reading about them.

Then again, if it isn't gays, global-warmers, or immigrants the AmeriKan media doesn't want to have much to do with them (unless its restless Muslims threatening an upheaval of world order; doesn't that scare you, American?).

The opposition has grown since Japan’s nuclear crisis, with critics noting that Jaitapur is in a seismic zone....

Yeah, maybe a NUKE PLANT in the area is NOT A VERY GOOD IDEA!

Construction is to start this year on the first of six units at the proposed $10 billion plant, billed as the biggest in the world....

I sure hope GE didn't design it.

India has said additional safeguards will be taken in light of the troubles at the Fukushima nuclear power plant....

Think that makes the residents feel better?

The government has asserted that the site is safe and the plant’s location on a high cliff would save it from being hit by a tsunami....

That's what lying government$ do.

Protesters plan to march Saturday from a nuclear power plant near Mumbai to Jaitapur to oppose the new project.

No follow-up from the agenda-pushing paper on that afterthought.

Besides, why would Indians want to protest?

"Economic boom proves a boon for the lowest of India’s caste system" April 21, 2011|By Rama Lakshmi, Washington Post

Not everyone is hailing the attention focused on Dalit millionaires. Some Dalits view the successful business owners as members of an elite club.

“Maybe 10 percent of Dalits are doing well, but what about the rest who are rotting in poverty in villages and city slums?’’ said Anand Teltumbde, a Dalit activist and author.

That would break Gandhi's heart were he alive today.
