Clearing Out the Chinese Smog

It's global warming fart mist.

"Chinese media cover nation’s foul air" New York Times, January 15, 2013

BEIJING — The Chinese state media Monday published detailed reports on what it described as the sickening and dangerous air pollution in Beijing and other parts of northern China.

The extensive coverage indicated that popular anger over air quality had reached a level at which Communist Party propaganda officials felt that they had to allow the officially sanctioned press to address the concerns of citizens.

I'm not really into analyzing these articles anymore because I am so sick and tired of pot-hollering kettle s*** media.

Why Am I No Longer Reading the Newspaper?

All of a sudden my newspaper makes such clear sense.

The across-the-board coverage of Beijing’s brown, soupy air, which has been consistently rated ‘‘hazardous’’ or even worse by foreign and local monitors since last week, was the most open in recent memory.

Since 2008, when Beijing made efforts to clean up the city before the Summer Olympics, the air has appeared to degrade in the view of many residents, although the official media have often avoided addressing the problem.

And ours does the same thing, Americans. You know that by now.

The wide coverage Monday appears to be in part a reaction to the conversation that has been unfolding on Chinese microblogs, where residents of northern China have been discussing the pollution nonstop in recent days.

Yes, the Chinese are reactionary.

The problem is so serious that hospitals reported Monday a surge in patient admissions for respiratory problems, and Beijing officials ordered government cars off the road to try to curb the pollution, which some people say has been exacerbated by a weather phenomenon, called an inversion, that traps dirty particles.

Oh, I love that last idea. Then they can stop contributing to global warming while wanting to get into my wallet. Maybe Sec-of-State Kerry can stop taking all those plane trips, too.

‘‘I’ve never seen such broad Chinese media coverage of air pollution,’’ said Jeremy Goldkorn, a business consultant in Beijing who tracks the Chinese media.

Not like I want to excuse Chinese air pollution; however, can you imagine what the reaction would be if China were to do the same in some sooty American city? At a certain point AmeriKan government arrogance is offensive even to Americans.

"Beijing takes urgent action on smog" by Edward Wong  |  New York Times, January 31, 2013

BEIJING — The Beijing government put in place emergency measures Wednesday to try to combat thick smog that has encased the city in brown and gray soot. The measures include temporarily shutting more than 100 factories and ordering a third of government vehicle off the streets, official news reports said.

The effort came on the second straight day of air that is rated ‘‘hazardous’’ by the standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency....

We've got some nerve.

This month, Beijing has writhed in the grip of the most polluted air on recent record. The surge in pollution, which is happening across northern China, has angered residents and led the state media to report more openly on air issues.

Officials have also begun acknowledging the severity of the pollution....

Now if only Americans could get their newspapers to acknowledge all the war lies.

FLASHBACK:

"Beijing to disclose pollution data" January 07, 2012

BEIJING - A bureau in charge of monitoring China’s frequently smog-choked capital will release more detailed reports, state media said yesterday, following a public outcry over the hazards of fine-particle pollution.

Beijing’s decision to publish the data appeared aimed at appeasing residents’ anger over the pollution and a lack of government openness about it.

Frustration over the issue has been fueled by a Twitter feed set up by the US Embassy in Beijing that reports air quality as measured by a monitor on the embassy roof and publishes it online every hour....

Look, I'm not in favor of pollution, but WHAT A PROVOCATIVE ACT!!!

Beijing is frequently cloaked in yellow haze. Buildings a couple of blocks away are barely visible. Still, Beijing’s official air quality index records the pollution as “light’’ - a reading at odds with what many people experience....

That's the feeling I get when reading a Globe.

You know, if the US was REALLY WORRIED about the AIR they would SHUT DOWN the BIGGEST POLLUTER on the FACE of the PLANET -- the AmeriKan War Machine!

Well, I'm running short of breath here, so....

"SPECIAL GLACIAL FACIAL -- A worker polished a snow sculpture in preparation Tuesday for Shenyang International Ice Snow Festival in Liaoning Province. The festival kicks off on Thursday, local media reported (Boston Globe January 9 2013)."

I didn't read much if anything about Chinese record-setting snowfall and cold winter, but you know. That would alter the agenda-pu$hing narrative, and we can't have that in an AmeriKan newspaper.

"12 in south perish after hailstorms

BEIJING — Hailstorms that hit southern China last week killed 12 people, injured hundreds more, and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage. The official Xinhua News Agency said nine people were killed in the city of Dongguan in southern Guangdong Province after a Wednesday hailstorm. It said 272 others were injured from the storm, which caused economic losses of $57.5 million. Three other people died from hailstorms that began Tuesday in neighboring Hunan Province."

Holy hail, a one-day wonder buried in a brief.

More of a concern at the moment:

"2,800 pigs dumped in Shanghai river raises pollution concern" Associated Press, March 12, 2013

BEIJING — A surge in the dumping of dead pigs upstream from Shanghai — with more than 2,800 carcasses floating into the financial hub through Monday — has followed a police campaign to curb the illicit trade in sick pig parts.

The effort to keep infected pork off dinner tables is fueling new health fears, as Shanghai residents and local media fret over the possibility of contamination to the city’s water supply, though authorities say no contamination has been detected.

Wow, your authorities are no better than ours. Meanwhile, the oil spill in Arkansas is barely covered here, and the one in Buzzard's Bay was a one-day wonder.

Authorities have been pulling out the dead pigs since Friday — and revolting images in news reports and online blogs have raised public ire against local officials. On Monday, Shanghai officials said the number of carcasses retrieved had reached 2,813.

Shanghai’s city government said initial investigations had found the dead pigs came from Jiaxing city in neighboring Zhejiang province. Pork from diseased pigs has ended up in markets, prompting a crackdown.

Don't get the pork-fried rice for lunch.
