Drug Dealer Given Taser Treatment at Hospital

Not that I'm into defending heroin dealers or anything, but....

For 45 minutes, William Byrd led authorities on a low-speed car chase through three towns in the Cape Cod area on Wednesday night before officers finally subdued and tasered him in a hospital emergency room, police said.

That must have been one hell of a scene!

The 34-year-old Wareham resident was arraigned in ­Falmouth District Court Thursday on drug trafficking charges after a seven-month investigation into his alleged heroin distribution ring, Bourne police Lieutenant Richard Silvestro said. A not-guilty plea was ­entered on Byrd’s behalf and he was held on $50,000 cash bail, according to court documents.

They couldn't have just gone to house late a night like they do so often? Couldn't have picked him up on the streets or anything? WTF?

Byrd is accused of selling narcotics to undercover officers and refusing to stop for police when they tried to pull him over in Bourne around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Silvestro said.

Tire-popping strips forced him to stop and flee the car, and police caught up to him at ­Tobey Hospital, Silvestro said. ...

I know it sounds evil, but it's time to legalize drugs and make the penalties akin to alcohol. All the drug war is doing is leading to police thuggery.
