JONESBORO, Ga. — Robbers broke into a home near Atlanta early Tuesday, demanding jewelry and money, and when they were told there was none of either in the house, abducted a 14-year-old girl and shot and killed the family dog, police said.
Why did they have to kill the dog?
Police were stopping and checking cars during an all-out search for Ayvani Hope Perez.
The two men pried open a back door of the home in the Ellenwood area around 2:15 a.m., demanding the items, said Clayton County police Officer Phong Nguyen.
The girl was last seen being taken from the home in a gray Dodge, police said.
The home invasion was apparently random, Nguyen told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
‘‘It didn’t appear that they knew each other,’’ he said of the suspects and victims. ‘‘They just moved in about a month ago.’’
Police late Tuesday morning released sketches of the two suspects.
The abduction was at a home in Ellenwood, a small community southeast of Atlanta, police said. The neighborhood is on the northern edge of Clayton County, just south of the DeKalb County line.
‘‘I’m so terrified,’’ 16-year-old Breyana Walker, who lives down the street from Ayvani, told the newspaper.
‘‘I feel like I need someone here with me,’’ she said. ‘‘It could happen to anybody. I don’t know what to do.’’

ELLENWOOD, Ga. — A 14-year-old Georgia girl abducted in a home invasion robbery was found alive on Wednesday after a massive search by multiple law enforcement agencies, and two suspects were in custody, police said....
Clayton County Police Chief Gregory Porter said two suspects were in custody. However, FBI Special Agent Rick Maxwell said those two suspects were not the two men identified in police sketches. Authorities are still looking for tips about those two men depicted in the sketches, Maxwell said....
Hey, at least they got somebody. Who cares if they are the right people or not?
