"Man dies in fall from trail" by Felicia Gans Globe Correspondent August 10, 2015
A Waltham man hiking in the White Mountain National Forest in Albany, N.H., fell about 40 feet to his death Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Steven Marshall, 29, was hiking with friends on the Champney Falls Trail around 12:30 p.m. when he began climbing a steep ledge to the side of Pitcher Falls, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. He slipped from the ledge and was killed.
Alex Lopashanski, a conservation officer, said the department has seen injuries and deaths in that area in the past.
“A part of the problem has always been that it’s a beautiful area, and there’s a lot of beautiful spots,” he said. “When people are there, they forget the inherent dangers that are around them.”
Was his own fault?
