Slow Saturday Special: Fright Night in Fitchburg

Fitchburg police are searching for the person or persons responsible for shooting a man twice in the leg and stealing his car.

A 32-year-old Fitchburg man was outside of the Hilltop Estates apartment complex on Columbus Street at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when he quarreled with a group of people, Captain Steven Giannini said.

The man knew people in the group, according to Giannini.

Someone in the group shot the man in the leg, police said. The victim ran into a nearby building, but soon realized he had left his car running outside. When he went out to check on the vehicle, a person in the group shot him again in the same leg.

The man was taken to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster and later to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester . Police expect him to survive.

Police said they are looking for the victim’s 2002 brown Nissan Maxima

Police but would not comment on how many suspects they are looking for.
