Gandhi Rises From the Grave

"Indians riled at auction of Gandhi belongings; Lawmakers implored to stop sale in New York" by Rama Lakshmi, Washington Post | February 25, 2009

NEW DELHI - .... Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence moved millions of Indians to rise against more than 200 years of oppressive British rule.

Not only then; the same is true today of his disciples across the planet.

Varsha Das, director of the National Gandhi Museum in New Delhi, using a suffix with Gandhi's name as a mark of respect:

"By auctioning his things, we are going totally against what Gandhiji stood for. It is as if we are trying to buy a piece of Gandhiji. He never believed in possessing things, except for a few things he wore. He was absolutely against materialism and commercialism. It is more important to disseminate his message, to learn something from his life, rather than just possess his objects."

.... Gandhi was assassinated in 1948 by a Hindu radical....

I know that's what the history books, et al, say; however, given my recent experiences I don't know what to believe anymore.
