Chavez Knows American Leaders

"Chávez, on his weekly television and radio program: "One could say, 'poor ignorant person,'" adding that Obama "should read a little bit so that he learns about . . . the reality of Latin America.""

Sorry, AmeriKa, but
CHAVEZ was RIGHT the first time.

"Chavez: Obama ignorant on Latin America" by Associated Press | March 23, 2009

CARACAS - President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela yesterday called President Obama "ignorant," saying he has a lot to learn about Latin America.

The Venezuelan leader said he had been ready to name a new ambassador in Washington when Obama took office, but put that on hold after the new US president accused him of "exporting terrorism" and being an obstacle to progress in the region.

"At least one could say, 'poor ignorant person,' " Chávez said on his weekly television and radio program, adding that Obama "should read a little bit so that he learns about . . . the reality of Latin America."

Chávez and Obama both plan to attend a summit of leaders from across the Americas next month in Trinidad and Tobago. There, Chávez said he will make a case for Cuba to be included in regional talks, saying "we can no longer continue to accept the impositions of the US empire."

I think we know how that will turn out already!

"We ask only for respect for Venezuela, nothing else," Chávez said. "If Obama respects us, we'll respect him." Chávez said he showed some of the US administration's critical remarks about him to US Representative William Delahunt when the Massachusetts Democrat visited Caracas last week.

Is that TOO MUCH to ASK, AmeriKa? I mean, WE DEMAND IT from people!!!

"They keep pointing to me as the bad boy, as the one who attacks," Chávez said. "Who started the attack first? Obama."

The US Embassy in Caracas did not immediately return a call seeking comment yesterday.

"Venezuelan opposition leader goes into hiding, party says" by Reuters | April 1, 2009

CARACAS - Venezuelan opposition leader Manuel Rosales, under investigation for corruption, has gone into hiding to escape alleged persecution by President Hugo Chavez, his party said yesterday.

Rosales is the most visible face of Venezuela's fractured opposition movement and he was defeated by the socialist Chavez in the 2006 presidential election. His move to escape arrest could help the socialist Chavez consolidate his control over the OPEC nation as the government faces a tumble in oil prices that forces cuts in popular social welfare programs.

Yeah, LOOK THERE, not HERE, Amurkn!

Chavez last year vowed to jail Rosales, who denies the charges. Omar Barboza, an official with Rosales' party A New Time, said the opposition leader had moved to "a safe place" to avoid arrest by the government. "It is not possible for Manuel Rosales to exercise his right to defend himself in Venezuela," Barboza said.

Critics accuse Chavez of using justice selectively in a country where corruption is rampant, but his government says it is a simple investigation and wants Rosales tried on charges of illicit enrichment while behind bars.

"I don't think it does any favors to the country when people don't face justice," Communications Minister Jesse Chacon said yesterday after Rosales went into hiding.

Chavez's government has used the legal system to sideline other opposition leaders. Last year officials blocked the candidacy of Leopoldo Lopez, who was favored to win election in Caracas and seen as a possible future presidential candidate.

Everybody FORGET ATTORNEY-GATE already??

Rosales' move may lead Chavez to pursue similar legal attacks on high-profile opposition governors and mayors, whom he frequently describes as corrupt.

C'mon, MSM. You are truly slipping if this is an item in your paper.

"In Brazil, pigeons are jailbirds of a different sort" by Associated Press | April 1, 2009

SAO PAULO - Inmates have devised an innovative way to smuggle in cellphones into a prison farm in Brazil: carrier pigeons.

What, giving the birds cancer, too?

Guards at the Danilio Pinheiro prison near the southeastern city of Sorocaba noticed a pigeon resting on an electric wire with a small cloth bag tied to one of its legs last week.

"The guards nabbed the bird after luring it down with some food and discovered components of a small cellphone inside the bag," police investigator Celso Soramiglio said Tuesday.

One day later, another pigeon was spotted dragging a similar bag inside the prison's exercise yard. Inside the bag was the cellphone's charger, Soramiglio said.

The birds were apparently bred and raised inside the prison, smuggled out, outfitted with the cellphone parts and then released to fly back. "Pigeons instinctively fly back home, always," the investigator said.

I didn't know that! I can't believe I learned something from the paper.... unless....!

Soramiglio said that police have not discovered who raised the pigeons nor the name of the inmate who was going to receive the cellphone.

How could they not track that down? Wouldn't it be pretty hard to hide, a pigeon prison inside a prison? Something doesn't make sense there.
