Speaking at a news conference in Campo, federal officials said more than one person probably was involved in the Thursday night shooting of agent Robert Rosas, 30, as he patrolled the remote area for smugglers. They also said the shooting occurred within “close proximity’’ to the border fence, and that Rosas was outside his vehicle when he was killed.
Earlier yesterday, investigators said there were signs of a struggle and that some of Rosas’s gear was stolen. It was the first shooting death of a Border Patrol agent in about a decade.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of our own,’’ Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. “Agent Robert Rosas was gunned down while protecting our nation’s Southwest border.
“This act of violence will not stand - nor will any act of violence against the Border Patrol.’’What are we going to do if we don't catch the killer? Invade?
