"Mass anti-Mafia demonstration held
NAPLES - Tens of thousands of people marched here yesterday to commemorate the victims of the Mafia and demand an end to the stranglehold of organized crime on southern Italy. Organizers said they expected 100,000 people from across Italy and 30 other countries to attend the rally, making it one of the biggest demonstrations against the powerful crime syndicates in recent years. Relatives of victims led the rally as the names of 900 people killed by the Mafia were read out through loudspeakers. The march was organized by Libera, an association of civil society groups involved in many anti-Mafia activities.

"Police arrest alleged Naples mobsters" by Associated Press | May 28, 2009
ROME - Italian police issued 61 arrest warrants yesterday against purported members of the Naples-based Camorra mob for allegedly running drug and extortion rings in the southern Italian city.
The suspects arrested in and around Naples include nine women and several bosses of the Sarno clan, a top local crime family. Investigators believe the Sarno clan was vying for a leading position in the Camorra, which is the Neapolitan version of the Sicilian Mafia.

He said 20 of the 61 people named in the warrants already were behind bars on other charges. The 41 others were arrested. The suspects also are accused of having illegal weapons and creating a mafia-like association....

What is disturbing is "how quickly they substitute the bosses" arrested in the raids, said Chiara Marasca, who works at the Observatory on the Camorra and Illegality, a Naples-based group that monitors the fight against mobsters. She cited the arrest on Tuesday in a Naples area apartment of Antonio Bastone, who investigators contend was a top drug lord in cocaine trafficking with South America....
Investigators say new arrests and wiretapping operations would probably determine whether he has already been replaced....--more--"
