"Jobless claims on the decrease; Analysts predict fewer July layoffs" by Christopher S. Rugaber, Associated Press | July 31, 2009

Seriously, what is with the DAILY DECEPTIONS with the HEADLINES, folks?

WASHINGTON - Fewer people are claiming jobless benefits, leading economists to project that next week’s employment report will show a sharp drop in job losses for July compared with June.

Claims for jobless aid, which track layoffs and firings, are trending downward in a modest sign of improvement in the labor market, economists note. That helps explain why analysts are forecasting that a net total of about 340,000 jobs will be lost in July.

And that is the GOOD NEWS!!!

This would compare with a net total of 467,000 jobs lost in June and the staggering 741,000 that were lost in January - the most for any month since 1949. The slowdown in job cuts is a modestly positive sign for the labor market, though most economists still expect the unemployment rate to keep rising into next year. The jobless rate, which reached 9.5 percent in June, is widely expected to top 10 percent by year’s end.

The latest figures show “there has been some improvement in the job market this summer,’’ David Resler, chief economist at Nomura Securities, wrote in a research note.

Yeah, I'm feeling damn insulted at this point. F***ing newspaper and the Globe suck!

The number of newly laid-off workers filing first-time claims for jobless benefits rose last week, the Labor Department said yesterday, but the increase was mostly due to seasonal distortions.

Translation: THE GOVERNMENT ALWAYS LIES!!

Look at them MAKING EXCUSES for their EARLIER LIES with BIGGER LIES!!! It NO LONGER WORKS, assholes, so STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!

Initial claims for unemployment aid rose by 25,000 to a seasonally adjusted 584,000, above analysts’ estimates. Still, that figure is below the 617,000 new claims filed in late June - before the figures began to be distorted by a shift in the timing of temporary auto shutdowns.

"Houghton Mifflin to cut 65" by D.C. Denison, Globe Staff | July 31, 2009

Educational publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Co. will lay off 65 employees in the wake of a deal signed earlier this month to purchase information technology services from global outsourcing firm Cognizant Technology Solutions. Cognizant is based in Teaneck, N.J., but most of its 63,700 employees are located in centers around the world, primarily in India. The layoffs will affect workers in the Boston area and in Orlando, Fla....

"Green Stimulus Money Costs More Jobs Than It Creates, Study Shows

Every “green job” created with government money in Spain over the last eight years came at the cost of 2.2 regular jobs, and only one in 10 of the newly created green jobs became a permanent job, says a new study released this month. The study draws parallels with the green jobs programs of the Obama administration. President Obama, in fact, has used Spain’s green initiative as a blueprint for how the United States should use federal funds to stimulate the economy. Obama's economic stimulus package, which Congress passed in February, allocates billions of dollars to the green jobs industry."

Yeah, I have often noticed the disparity between the TENS of THOUSANDS of JOBS we are SHEDDING with the GREEN PROMISE of HUNDREDS!!!

"Exxon Mobil profit lowest in 5 years

Exxon Mobil Corp., the largest US oil company, reported its lowest profit in more than five years, and fell short of analyst estimates after the recession sapped demand for diesel, gasoline, and natural gas. Second-quarter net income dropped 66 percent to $3.95 billion....

Awwww, poor, poor Exxon didn't make $40 BILLION this quarter, they only made 4. Oh, boo-hoo-hoo!!!!!

The quarter also included an exploration failure in Brazil, tax increases in Canada, and a narrowing of refining margins that may signal lower profitability on $1 billion in expansion work at Exxon Mobil plants in the United States and Europe....
