"Colleges brace for swine flu assault; Reserve space to sequester ill" by Stephen Smith, Globe Staff | September 5, 2009

.... The new and swiftly spreading flu strain is already spawning waves of illness at Southern universities that began classes last month. And with a swine flu vaccine not expected to land at campus clinics until mid-October at the soonest, university leaders in Massachusetts are weighing a range of precautions, from isolating feverish students in makeshift sick bays to canceling hallowed traditions such as ice cream socials.

At Boston University, five dozen dorm rooms have been reserved for coughing, aching, shivering students beset by the flu - and if things get really bad, a barracks-style infirmary will arise on a stretch of gymnasium floor.

At Emerson College, ailing students confined to their quarters will have food delivered to their door in the form of Feeling Blue Meals - for breakfast, it’s oatmeal, toast, and juice....

Signposts of flu prevention are everywhere....

No kidding! I've seen them outside the Walgreens! Come on in, get a shot!

Such measures, university doctors and nurses said, are especially critical while drug companies are still brewing a swine flu vaccine....

That's a good word to describe what they are doing.

Making a REAL WITCHES BREW they are!

"Day-care centers urged to be alert; Providers told to check for fever, flu-like symptoms" by Lauran Neergaard, Associated Press | September 5, 2009

WASHINGTON - The government is urging.... guidelines [for] day-care providers to do a quick health check every day, looking for children with flu-like symptoms or other signs that they might be getting ill, such as not playing normally. Centers should separate the sick child from others....

Like a leper?

And HOW DOES any of this INDICATE FLU, huh? KIDS are getting HOT all the TIME! They run around, they do things!

Talk about a GOVERNMENT RUN AMOK!

Checking for a fever is what Dr. Beth Bell, a CDC epidemiologist, called a “reasonable indicator’’ of flu, either the regular winter strains or the swine flu that scientists call the 2009 H1N1 flu....

Regardless, children of all ages are supposed to be among the first in line to get swine flu vaccine when it arrives in mid-October.

Yup, REGARDLESS!!!! Is YOUR CHILD'S LIFE so EASILY DISREGARDED, readers? Is that what a NEWSPAPER is for?

Vaccine against both types is a good idea for day-care workers, too, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said. It could mean the difference between a center staying open or having to close because of absent staff.

Yeah, GET THAT NEEDLE in AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE!

Gee, they REALLY WANT to get at the CHILDREN, huh?

I think the government wants to BREAK YOUR SPIRIT by KILLING YOUR CHILDREN, America!

ATLANTA - About one in 13 US swine flu deaths have been children and most of the victims have been of school age, the federal government said yesterday in its first study of the new flu’s youngest victims....

Really?

It’s hard to say whether children have accounted for a higher proportion of deaths from swine flu than they normally do from seasonal flu, though CDC officials say that seems to be true.

"Seems to be true" but NO EVIDENCE?

The CDC does not monitor seasonal flu deaths as closely as it does swine flu, and it has no comprehensive count of annual seasonal flu deaths....

WTF?!!!!

They DON'T TRACK REGULAR FLU?

Then WHAT ARE THEY DOING other than PROMOTING a NEEDLE in your arm!

Swine flu has caused more than 1 million illnesses in the United States, the CDC estimates. More than 550 deaths and 8,800 hospitalizations have been reported to date....

So your chances of dying are 5/100ths of one percent?

That is 0.05%, folks!

Are you scared? I'll take my chances.

I guess the labs will have to mutate it again, huh?

Meanwhile, a third company signaled yesterday that its swine flu vaccine may protect people with just one shot instead of two - another hopeful sign for flu prevention efforts.

Having a hard enough time convincing anyone to get the shots -- which they wanted to do two of -- so now we get a one-and-done shot. I'll skip it, thanks!

Swiss drug maker Novartis joins two Chinese companies that say the vaccine can be produced in one dose. In early results from human tests on one of its swine flu vaccine candidates, Novartis AG said one shot of its vaccine provided enough protection against the virus, as set out in criteria by US and European drug regulators.

Like I'm going to trust some agenda-pushing government and self-serving pharmaceutical at this point.
