"2 Israeli officers disciplined in UN attack" by Associated Press | February 2, 2010
JERUSALEM - The Israeli military said yesterday it has reprimanded two high-ranking officers for approving the firing of artillery shells toward a UN compound during the Gaza Strip war last year - the first admission of any high-level wrongdoing during the offensive.
Israel announced the punishment in a document submitted to the United Nations Friday in response to a UN report that has accused Israel’s military of committing war crimes, including the use of white phosphorus, an incendiary munition, in the warehouse attack.
They did. The whole world saw it.
Israel is trying to stave off the report’s central threat of launching war crimes proceedings if the nation does not carry out an independent investigation into the military’s conduct during the fighting.
US will veto.
There was no immediate comment from UN officials, and it remained unclear whether the relatively minor punishments would mollify international concerns that the military is not capable of investigating itself....
I don't know what would mollify me about Israel these days than a complete 180 and exodus from the region.
The artillery attack, which took place while more than 700 Palestinian civilians were taking refuge in the compound, set ablaze a warehouse that services more than 1 million Gazans, destroying thousands of pounds of food and other aid.
Which is what it was meant to do.
UN chief Ban Ki-moon was visiting the region at the time, and three people were wounded, according to UN officials.
Sort of an UP YOURS as he was visiting, 'eh, Israel?
Israel has said militants opened fire on Israeli troops from the compound - a charge the UN disputes.
NO ONE believes ISRAEL and her lies anymore.
Nonetheless, the Israeli report said....
WHO CARES?

Sigh.

"UN chief not certain on Gaza investigations; Conflict spurred war crimes inquiry" by Associated Press | February 6, 2010
UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he could not determine whether the Israelis or Palestinians had conducted credible investigations into allegations of war crimes during last year’s Gaza conflict as required under a UN resolution.
In a highly anticipated report released Thursday night to the 192-nation General Assembly, Ban said “no determination can be made on the implementation of the resolution by the parties concerned.’’
A UN panel, overseen by a respected South African jurist, Richard Goldstone, found evidence in September that both Israel and Palestinian militants may have committed war crimes during the fighting, in which 13 Israelis and almost 1,400 Palestinians were killed, including many civilians.
The fatalities tell you who the aggressor was.
A 100-to-1 ratio, huh?

I didn't even know there was one.
In November, the General Assembly endorsed the Goldstone report, urging Israel and the Palestinians to investigate alleged war crimes in Gaza or face the possibility of Security Council action if they didn’t, under an Arab-drafted resolution.
Any action by the Security Council, however, is unlikely because the United States holds veto power as one of the five permanent members.
Israel says it has launched investigations into 150 separate incidents.
The Palestinians created a commission to carry out an investigation only in late January.
You understand the implication of the last two sentences, right?
Translation: Israel bent over backwards.

I don't expect the U.N to go any further.
Update: ISRAEL WITHOUT ANY REMORSE
You going to let that happen, U.N.?
