"In packed Somerville pub, soccer rules" by Christopher Girard, Globe Correspondent | June 13, 2010
SOMERVILLE — There were no giant horns or painted faces, but soccer fans at the Thirsty Scholar Pub made a good show of noise and spirit yesterday afternoon as they watched the United States and England tie 1-1 in the World Cup game....
Wow, Globe was wrong again.
First they predicted Croakley would win by 15 in their "polls" and now this.
Groans and yells usually reserved for the
Yeah, the Celts are missing from my front page; WTF, BG?
If only for the afternoon, Boston was a soccer town....
Yeah, because AMERIKA was PLAYING! The SELF-ABSORBED, SELF-CENTERED, Amurkn people ONLY CARE when THEY are INVOLVED!
Otherwise, it's f*** ya!!!!!!
Ben Etherington, 27, lives in Australia but was in the area visiting his brother, who lives nearby.
Does that mean Australia will score two goals today?
Etherington had lived in Cambridge, England for a time, and was rooting for that country’s team. His brother was supporting the United States....
So they got the score right in the wrap-up report, huh?
That's is about the only thing they have gotten correct in I don't know how long.
Charlton Shen of Bedford was at the pub with friends, three of whom were rooting for England, and said he was trying to stay diplomatic: “I’m kind of in between,’’ he said.
Well, the contest did end in a draw.
Shen said he is no diehard soccer fan, but he was drawn to the World Cup because it’s a seminal global event.
I'm the same way. I never watch MLS; however, I recognize it's importance to the rest of the world. I worked with a guy once and he was very interested in it.
That's why I'm posting this stuff.
