Month of Middle East Peace Ends As Predicted

It's why I'm having a hard time getting through any articles about Israel in my newspaper.

"Obama needs a short renewal of the freeze, and the semblance of continuing Israeli and Palestinian participation in the “peace process”, until the US Congressional elections in November. Criticism by the powerful pro-Israel lobby in Washington may damage Obama’s Democratic party unless he treads a very thin line. He needs to create the impression of progress in the Middle East talks but not upset Israel’s supporters."

US drops bid for settlement freeze (By Mark Landler, New York Times)

My printed paper carried an AP piece, sigh.

"Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the U.S. had halted talks with Israel on settlement activity because Washington was distracted by the WikiLeaks release of secret documents....

Yeah, Wikileaks benefits Israel again -- and they came out just as the month was ending!

--more--"

And I can find these next two paragraphs nowhere on the web

Meanwhile, three dozen top Israeli rabbis threw their support yesterday behind a religious ruling barring Jews from selling or renting homes to non-Jews -- an indication of growing radicalism within the rabbinical community at a time of mounting friction between Israeli Arabs and Jews.

The action by the clerics, who are chief rabbis in some of Israel's largest cities and influential among the devout, quickly fueled charges of racism.

It was also likely to deepen the feelings of alienation growing between Israel's majority Jews and minority Arabs, and widen the schism between secular and religious Jews.

They don't even need my criticism; they are destroying themselves.

Also as predicted.
