Creating a Buzz in Egypt

Gee, who would want to do that?

"Former President Hosni Mubarak’s top security official, who led a much-feared security apparatus blamed for widespread rights abuses, was convicted yesterday of corruption and money laundering and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The conviction of former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly marked the start of a broad reckoning with the legacy of Mubarak’s three-decade authoritarian rule, which was brought to an end on Feb. 11 by a popular uprising.

Adly was the first of about two dozen Mubarak-era Cabinet ministers and regime-linked businessmen to be found guilty. The others in custody include a former prime minister, the speakers of Parliament’s two chambers and Mubarak’s two sons, all suspected of corruption.

Adly said nothing after hearing the verdict but looked visibly distraught as he was led away by police guards to an armored truck that took him to prison. Several hundred protesters outside the courthouse shouted insults at him as he made his way to the truck, with some demanding that he be executed.

If that is what they want. It IS their country.

"12 die in Egypt religious clashes; Church burns as Muslims, Copts battle" May 09, 2011|By Ernesto Londono, Washington Post

CAIRO — Clashes between Muslims and Coptic Christians in a Cairo suburb left 12 people dead, dozens wounded, and a church charred in one of the most serious outbreaks of violence the country’s interim rulers have faced since taking power in February....

Sorry, but I'm no longer falling for what the Muslim-hating, Zionist War Daily reports on sectarianism.

See: Cryptic Attack on Coptic Church

Yes, who would want to destabilize Egypt -- especially now?

Clashes also broke out yesterday during demonstrations attended by Copts and Muslims to show unity and demand better protection from the government....

Oh, the STENCH of AGENT PROVOCATEUR in the MORNING!!!

The spike in religious violence appeared to catch Egypt’s military rulers by surprise....

Me, too!

“A lot of rocks and bottles were being thrown under the bridge, but I noticed that there were no Salafi types’’ around, said Sharif Kouddous, a freelance journalist who was present. “It was hard to tell who was throwing, but there were lots of thugs.’’

Why did FORMER REGIME SUPPORTERS just come to mind?

Tension between Muslims and Copts, who make up roughly 10 percent of Egypt’s population of 80 million, is not new. But in recent months, as Egyptians have become emboldened to air their grievances publicly, physical confrontations between members of the two communities have become increasingly common.

Youssef Sidhom al-Watani, the editor of a Coptic newspaper, said the rumors of forced conversions of women appear to be a ploy by a small group of Salafists.

“They want to assert themselves in the political arena and their means to do so is to highlight rumors of conversion cases of ladies,’’ Watani said yesterday. “That is their way of creating a buzz.’’

We call them news media here in AmeriKa.

"Egyptians protest anti-Christian violence; Interim rulers urged to control influence of Salafis" May 10, 2011|Associated Press

CAIRO — Hundreds of Egyptians protested violence against the country’s Coptic Christian minority yesterday...

Translation: Egyptians are not biting the sectarian bait.

Spiraling sectarian tension is emerging as a major fault line in the tumultuous aftermath of the popular uprising that forced Hosni Mubarak from power in February....

So my AGENDA-PUSHING WAR PROMOTER TELLS ME!!

The protest was largely peaceful....
