Globe Gadgetry

More like gimmickry:

"Parts from Mass. firms make gadget boom whole; Demand for components lifts state economy" by Hiawatha Bray, Globe Staff / May 24, 2011

Thanks to a booming market for mobile devices and other gadgets around the world, the state’s technology companies are creating thousands of jobs and driving the local economy’s recovery.

And because the Boston Globe says it it must be true.

I'm tired of the agenda-pushing pitch, folks -- and really, really sick of the LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

“What really jumps out is the robustness of the state’s technology sector,’’ said Martin Romitti, director of economic and public policy research at the University of Massachusetts’ Donahue Institute. “The companies that are here are doing tremendously good sales and having tremendously good profits.’’

Much of the sector’s strength derives from strong overseas sales....

And not here, American -- but then you know that already.

Yeah, they are the only ones doing well now.

Of course, exports and the mobile device boom are not the whole story of high-tech prosperity in Massachusetts. Domestic demand for the state’s products is growing, as well, mostly from companies recovering from hard times and getting ready to expand again.

Where?  Not around here.

I hate to be the one to SPOIL the DELUSION but SINCE GAS HIT $4/gallon the LOCAL ECONOMY has been and is (despite the instant lowering when the greed-heads realized they overreached; Amerikan consumer wasn't even off his back, hadn't even moved yet, and the billions-per-quarter in profits oil companies jacked up the price right away when they thought this turd economy was rolling) DEAD in the WATER!!

Nationwide, “there’s been a 12 percent increase in business purchases of equipment and software,’’ said the Donahue Institute’s Romitti. “They’re making a lot of investments in productivity-improving things. That generally means new equipment, new computers, new software.’’

I notice he didn't say new jobs.  All this technology stuff is what they call a "productivity-saving" device -- meaning it eliminates a human at some level.

Btw, when are they going to make some software that actually works given the mass of money and manpower carrying our economy?

Massachusetts is also a favorite shopping destination for the Pentagon, which issued $15.6 billion in military contracts to Massachusetts companies in 2009

Yeah, that is BILLION with a B in ONE YEAR, readers!!

But that CAN'T BE in LIBERAL, ANTIWAR, DEMOCRATIC Massachusetts, right?

Right?

RIGHT?

RIGHT?

RIGHT?!!!

Now you know WHO is CARRYING your economy, Massachusetts, and there can be no doubt, nation: We ARE IN a WAR ECONOMY right now and HAVE BEEN for YEARS!!

That is why YOUR HEALTH and SOCIAL PROGRAMS are being CUT while TAXES are INCREASED as your INFRASTRUCTURE CRUMBLES!

That has meant plenty of business for Mercury Computer Systems Inc. of Chelmsford, which builds high-performance computing subsystems that add intelligence to major weapons like fighter planes or surveillance drones....

Heck, we EVEN MAKIN' a FEW BUCKS of the MASS-MURDER of INNOCENT MUSLIMS!!

Defense contractor ITT Corp. uses Mercury computers in a system supplied to American soldiers; it analyzes and jams cellphone signals to prevent the detonation of roadside bombs in Afghanistan. “It identifies anything that could be a trigger and jams it momentarily, so the people and the vehicles can move safely through that zone,’’ said Ed Palacio, vice president of program management for electronic systems at ITT.

And, of course, we wouldn't need tho$e if we left.

Perhaps the biggest challenge to the state’s technology boom is a lack of workers with advanced technical skills. “You see a lot of tech companies around the state saying they have real skill shortages,’’ Romitti said.
