Virginia Still a Hot Topic With Globe

"Ex-firefighter, girlfriend charged in Va. arsons" by Brock Vergakis  |  Associated Press, April 03, 2013

ACCOMAC, Va. — A former volunteer firefighter and his girlfriend were arrested Tuesday and are suspected of setting a majority of the 70 arsons on Virginia’s Eastern Shore over the past five months.

Talk about a flaming inside job!

Charles R. Smith III, who went by the alias Charles Applegate when he served as captain of the Tasley Volunteer Fire Department several years ago, and his girlfriend, Tonya S. Bundick, were arrested early Tuesday, shortly after an abandoned residence was set ablaze.

Honestly, I know this sounds too "conspiratorial," but was he getting paid by or working for banks? Good way to get rid of foreclosed properties and keep those home prices up, right? Then the ma$$ media mouthpiece can claim the housing market is recovering. Banks have already been compensated by the Fed for those things, so.... ????

Burning works just as good, maybe better even.

Corinne Geller, a Virginia State Police spokeswoman, said the pair are believed to be responsible for most of the fires set since November. Others, Geller said, appear to have been set by someone else.

‘‘We are confident that Bundick and Smith are responsible for the majority of the fires set,’’ Geller said.

Bundick, 40, and Smith, 38, were each charged with one count of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson for Monday night’s blaze, and Geller said more charges should be filed soon. Both Bundick and Smith are being held in Accomack County Jail without bond, pending court appearances Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether they had attorneys.

‘‘This is really just the beginning of the end,’’ Geller said, adding that the investigation into the fires continues.

It's ending as the investigation is ongoing?

If what I suspect is true coverage of this will be ending soon, or some cock-and-bull story will be put out to account for their behavior. Anybody check 'em for pre$cription meds?

Court records show that police observed the fire being set just before midnight Monday. The criminal complaint says authorities saw a person get dropped off, set fire to the abandoned residence, then get picked up by the same vehicle. Authorities stopped the vehicle, and court records show Bundick was driving.

Police so good and so attuned to the environment they are right there cruising by, or are they on a stake-out? And if so, what are they doing staking out abandoned property when I'm told there's a crime problem in the country? Wouldn't the arsonists at least taken notice of a cruiser?

Geller refused to say whether the duo had confessed to setting the fires.

All of the arsons were set in Accomack County, which borders Maryland.

That story stinks, folks.

I was going to link some other Virginia items the globe has covered the last couple days here, but rather than do that why don't you just follow your scroll?

Who knows? You might even make it to the North Carolina border if you can see through the fog.

And while I'm hot on the Globe's trail:

"Man convicted in deadly 1970 Arizona fire is freed" by Brian Skoloff  |  Associated Press, April 03, 2013

TUCSON — A man who spent more than 40 years in prison for a 1970 hotel fire that killed 29 people agreed to a deal with prosecutors Tuesday that cleared the way for him to be released after his conviction was called into question.

That's happening WAY TOO MUCH in AmeriKa's justice system.

How's he doing anyway?

The plea deal marks a stunning reversal for Louis Taylor, who was 16 years old when he was arrested in the fire at the Pioneer Hotel in Tucson, where employees of an aircraft company were celebrating at a Christmas party.

Taylor, 59, showed no visible reaction as he accepted the deal and said ‘‘no contest’’ 28 different times, for each murder count leveled against him. When it was all finished, Superior Court Judge Richard Fields said, ‘‘Welcome back, Mr. Taylor.’’ He was released from prison later Tuesday.

Taylor was sentenced to 28 consecutive life sentences and repeatedly has maintained his innocence.

AmeriKan authorities don't listen to that and apparently never did. That would require way too much work and a possible unsolved or lost case that would spoil chances for promotion until jumping to the private sector.

Taylor, who is black, contends he was wrongly convicted by an all-white jury after, he alleged, police failed to investigate other suspects. Reports at the time indicated Taylor was helping people escape the blaze before being arrested later that night.

It's Richard Jewell and the Atlanta Olympic bombing all over again!

Reports in 2002 by CBS’ ‘‘60 Minutes’’ raised questions about whether the fire was, in fact, arson.

That was 11 YEARS AGO!!!

Prosecutors still believe that Taylor is guilty, but said they would not be able to pursue a new trial due to a lack of evidence and living witnesses.

Yeah, EVIDENCE THEY NEVER HAD as they authority in AmeriKa ONCE AGAIN REFUSES to ADMIT a MISTAKE!

And they WONDER WHY we DON'T BELIEVE a DAMN THING THEY SAY most of the time!!

Yeah, you do have to be careful about fires.

First thing the government looks for is a scapegoat

That should put a splash on whose starting them, 'eh?
