Obama's Alphabet Scandals: Globe's IRS Coverage Makes Me Unhappy

And yeah, it does have something to do with gays....

"Former chairman of Freddie Mac tapped to lead IRS" by Jackie Calmes |  New York Times, August 02, 2013

WASHINGTON — President Obama said Thursday that he would nominate John A. Koskinen, a widely respected manager who took charge of a bankrupt Freddie Mac, to head another troubled institution, the Internal Revenue Service.

Should Koskinen win Senate confirmation — he is well regarded among lawmakers of both parties — he would become commissioner at a periodic low point for the tax collection agency, after accusations from Republicans that it targeted conservative groups in screening their tax-exempt status.

It is not only an accusation, it's the truth!

Koskinen would fill the opening created when the Obama administration dismissed acting IRS commissioner Steven T. Miller in May after the controversy first surfaced.

Miller was due for retirement in June.

Obama’s Treasury secretary, Jacob J. Lew, had installed Daniel I. Werfel as acting commissioner until a new tax chief could be nominated and confirmed.

Musical chairs of criminals, that's what it looks like to me.

Globe is moving on now. That mess all cleaned up.

"US tax penalty for gay couples is disappearing; Spouses’ benefits faced federal taxes" by Chelsea Conaboy |  Globe Staff, August 02, 2013

Many Massachusetts employers extend health insurance benefits to their workers’ same-sex spouses. But even in a state where gay marriage has been legal since 2004, coverage has come at a cost for these couples. They must pay federal taxes, often more than $100 a month, not owed by other married people.

Now those tax penalties are disappearing, among the first tangible changes gay couples in Massachusetts have seen since the Supreme Court in June tossed out a federal law defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

Some employers have stopped withholding federal taxes from paychecks for their insurance contributions for same-sex spouses, though the Internal Revenue Service has not yet issued a specific directive that gay couples are eligible for the same tax benefits as other families....

This may surprise you, but I'm actually GLAAD the government is letting gays -- or anyone else for that matter -- keep a little more of the money that should never be taken from them in the first place.

"All legally married same-sex couples will be recognized for federal tax purposes, regardless of whether the state where they live recognizes the marriage, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service said Thursday."

This government has its greedy, money-grubbing mitts grabbing for every buck it can get.

UPDATE:

"Married same-sex couples with children may face higher bills from the Internal Revenue Service as recent Supreme Court rulings start playing out in the tax code."

Not a word, but then again I'm not surprised, either.

Oh, yeah, targeting political enemies is an impeachable offense. I know that makes some people unhappy.
